Well the X3 is going tomorrow.
« on: February 18, 2018, 08:21:47 PM »
I've decided to get shut of my 58 plate E83 X3. I've had it one week shy of 12 months and after having a year of BMW mechanical and electrical problems between the wife's E39 330i Msport  hard top convertible and my X3 , 3.0d Msport I was getting bong paranoid.
The 330i suffered a failed roll over sensor £400
Failed ABS/ DSC pump  £700
Blown Xenon headlight bulb £120
Rear discs and pads £200
Worn suspension bush £100
Two new rear tyres £200
Alloy refurbishment £260
Service and Valet £185
Then she decided she wanted an SUV after a drive home in the snow in a 3 litre RWD car frightened her to death 🙁

So we PX the 330i in for a 2011 Honda CRV , with NAV Btooth, BT streaming USB / iPod , and she loves it.😀😀😀

Now for the X3 3.0 D Msport.
On the way home from purchasing the car I could feel the transmission winding up and lurching, I had preordered tyres, so on they went. £ 400
Then did the thermostat, glowplugs, glowplug controller, swirlflap delete, airfilter  £150
Then the steering would shake after being on the motorway, so identified a sticking calliper. £150
Then fitted a towbar and dedicated electrics £250
Then the dash lit up like a Christmas tree, turned out to be a wheel sensor and reluctor ring, took them ages to get the hub apart and change the ring as it was seized in, new wheel sensor and at the same time faults on the SAS so replaced . £500
Then the flat tyre light was coming on every 10 miles and a smell of hot brakes, turned out to be another sticking brake calliper on the rear this time £150
Ow the car / steering shakes a bit when under higher than 60 mph braking so guess the discs have suffered with heat because of the sticking calipers.
I went for a blast the other day to discover no boost, turned the ignition off the back on , hasn't done it since
By this time I've lost all confidence in the car,
Noticed a Kia Sorento KX3 2.2 d on Autotrader , 2 miles away.  Already fitted with a tow bar, Btooth USB, Pan roof, leather, air con, reversing sensors , Xenons , self level suspension , etc etc 32,000 miles FSH Keyless entry 7 seats
Full size alloy Spare , auto lights / wipers Voice activation. Heated electric seats, heated folding mirrors
Picking it up tomorrow after tracking and 2 new tyres.
( yes you can fit 2 new tyres, no need for all 4 😀)
I'm expecting some colourfull comments, 😀
But on a car that they offer 7 years warranty on can't be too shabby. And with 70 K less miles on than the X3, I'm hoping for a bit of bong relief 😁

Just picked the Sorento up today, can't believe how good it is 😀 Interior space is better than an E70, hasn't quite the ooomph as the X3 30 d but a lot more refined.
It isn't the prettiest of SUV's by far, but it's 194 BHP is more than ample for the driving I do these days,
being the KX3 it is also well speced, and for similar money that I paid for my E53 3.0d with 93 K on the clock 4 years ago. (32.6 K on the Kia ) it feels like I've stolen it.😎
Hopefully it turns out to be a much better buy than the X3 .
I have owned BMW's for the last 25 years, but have been disappointed of late by the reliability.
Unfortunately my car buying budget has meant I have been restricted to higher mileage examples, and probably unloved ones.
I always thought I would end up with an LCI X5 as my next car, but being a regular forum user I have been hesitant to commit to one due to the risk of anymore Major expensive repair costs.
But if my Euro lottery numbers come up I wouldn't hesitate to buy another .😋

Hi

Sounds like some sensible choices especially with the Mrs car it's important to feel safe.

I know the Kia offer a 7 year warranty and that does make sense for a lot of people as you have seven years of worry free motoring and as these costs are going up all the time.

To me it make sense when compared to the amount you spent on your older X3 as you spent over £1500 on repairs in a year which is a lot to have to fork out.

Good luck with the Kia and the Honda and remember to keep posting on the forum as your knowledge will always help others who have similar issues, and it's good to hear about other makes.
