Still here !

Newbies section / Re: Diesel or petrol X1?
« on: January 15, 2018, 10:08:43 PM »
Hi we had a 2011 X1 20d xdrive manual from new , did 50,000 miles in the car which was faultless , px the car March 17 th last year for 10k which was a fairly good deal for us against 220d xdrive gran tourer m sport .
Although the X1 was a good car rear leg room was never great for the ever growing kids , running costs were good 40 mpg , would I have another ? No . Why the car really should have had an auto box as it never seemed happy in most gears , the gran tourer is in a different class spacious , 7 seats , fully kitted out with satnav , folding mirrors , self park , auto box 3 settings , etc , most of these things are standard if you get an M sport , although they are well spec d anyway .
The X1 was traded to a dealer after us and unfortunately is still their , so one owner car , full service history through BMW as it had a service pack , towbar and sports seats . The point I am trying to make is if you are set on an X1 make sure you try a few manual and auto , go for a 2.0 + as the 1.8 are under powered , get the best spec you can get and don't pay over the odds . One thing to look out for is the EGR valve as this is a common problem on quite a few models , our gran tourer has already had one after 9,000 miles .
Good luck with your search !

We always seem to be on the wrong end of the deal !
I am not in a rush until another warning light comes up .
M sport is the preferred option but newer shape is tempting .

Hi Horizon
      thanks !
They are low balling me at 3k then ? with nothing off their car .
I love the E53 but I am wanting a change after nearly 12 years , I bought a new steering rack for the car last year which is still sitting in garage , put winter tyres on every year & generally look after the car well but the price of the main dealers is going up every year & the value of the car in banger territory although I have tried various other garages in the past with other cars I feel that the level of service is very good & that reflects in the condition it is in .
My Jensen Healey went in for an Mot a few years ago to a recommended garage & nearly never came back out they quoted 5k to put through , the 2nd garage charged £140 including the Mot .

Hi Graeme
        thanks !
I like the look of both but one has been sitting around for months in the dealers and I cant understand why , although it has a brown interior on a black car and is pretty poverty spec it started at 25k and is now £22900 , doesnt have the M sport arches , 18" wheels , standard seats .
The other car has M sport package is white with a black interior , 20" wheels and is mint body wise after spending a few weeks making it perfect in the body shop .
Last option is to wait and get a lower mileage car after I save a few more grand as 26-27k gets a 2014 car with 25-35 thousand miles on the clock .

What is my car worth ?
     2004 54 plate 30d sport .
     99950 miles
I am the second owner , had since 16000 miles and 16 months old .
Full BMW service history ,plus every mot done there .
Black car , beige napa leather , heated and memory seats , towbar fixed , just had new brake lines , last year new starter motor , battery 2 years ago , 1 service light remaining . The car has been maintained regardless of cost by main dealer .

I am looking for a bit of advice can get a 2012 E70 40d , 57000 miles full service history from a local dealer £22995 or a 2013 f15 se , 67000 miles , full history from a dealer 150 miles away for £22900 which one would you choose ? And why ?
I like the E70 but the F15 is newer so will hopefully be cheaper to run !

Hi I bought a 3.0 E89 4 months ago it is a great car but not a sports car, everyone recommends a Porsche Boxster but they just seem high maintenance and delicate.
The E89 is well built, engine is a peach, noise intoxicating, but once the roof is down it becomes even better, it gets lots of looks as they are quite rare. The Z4 forum on here is great at the bottom of the forum page.
Unfortunately I gave mine back to South Lakes BMW due to problems with the diff and service history that hadn't been done. Good luck with your search newer model 2.0l have turbos, aswell as 2.8 but the 35is is the range topper.

Our 220d has the 190bhp engine Euro 6 and doesn't require the adblue.

hi it is probably more spacious as the middle row of seats all move forward & backwards so leg room is better !
I have searched for a 7 seat X5 for the last couple of years to replace mine , unfortunately they are fairly rare as I wanted a specific car with a factory towbar , 40D Msport .
The 220 xdrive gran tourer has been a much better car than I thought it would have been , its engine in 2.0d form has 400 nm of torque & 190 bhp so it goes like stink , has several settings for eco , comfort & sport which quickens everything up & being 4 wheel drive it handles well also , ours has an 8 speed auto with flappy paddles which suits the car well .
Standard spec is very generous but I would opt for M sport for the xtras , you will get a 2015/2016 for similar price to the 2012 /2013 x5 , recommend having a go in one even if not sure as I still love the X5 but practically the 220 wins hands down .

Look at a Gran tourer 7 seater that you can get in 7 seats , we changed our X1 9 months ago for one still have my X5 ( E53 owned for 12 years ) .
 The car is extremely spacious , very adaptable & well specd in M sport guise , ours is a 220d xdrive M sport , 190 bhp , 40+ mpg , 7 sec to 60 , satnav , self park , sunroof , auto , heated leather , folding mirrors , etc .
I have been amazed at how much easier it has made long journeys with our 3 kids 15,13 & 7 going on 21 , no more arguments about who is sitting where & leg room is greatly improved as the seats move in the 2nd row .
Have a look as I found the Skoda abit tight in the back for getting in & out of also .
some good deals on 2nd hand ones and start on a 2015 plate .

General X5 Forum (E53) / Re: Window Tints - Pictures Anyone
« on: November 29, 2017, 06:06:43 PM »
I have a dark tint on mine great for keeping prying eyes out of the car, the kids love it especially if watching dvds in the back! As it is behind the front seats it doesn't distract you either, could you go for a 65%tint as this maybe the answer.
Only problem is it is starting to lift on mine as it was on from new and needs redone. Also watch out or ask about using glass cleaner on it as it leaves a resedue on mine
