Got a recommendation on another site for this company. Appointment booked for next week.

General Discussion / Stuck locking wheel studs
« on: Yesterday at 09:12:45 AM »
I have a F30 3 series and the locking wheel studs have been tightened too much the last time the wheels were changed. I have already sheered the locking wheel removal key and had to buy a new one from BMW. I have left the other 4 studs tight and still can't budge the locking ones.

I took the car to a place that had a tool to remove the Mcgard studs and he managed to get 2 loose but the tool he used sheered off inside the stud on the other 2.

I have looked on youtube and there are various videos on how to remove them, basically involving hammering a socket over the stud. The problem I have with this is that the studs have a floating collar and hammering a socket over the stud might just get stuck on this and just spin. Other ideas include hammering a socket on the stud to push the floating collar off and then hammer another socket onto the stud to remove it.
I think that welding any sort of device onto the stuck studs will damage the alloys.

Has anyone had this problem and managed to get seized studs out?
At a bit of a loss as what to do.

Problems / Re: 40d m-sport Engine Knock

I would say so, be careful not to fill the oil level over 1/2 way on the dipstick, as you can get the overfill warning coming on if you max the level to the indicated level.
My old E93 never even had a dipstick 😬 Not confidence building when the light comes on, and you don't know if it's a dicky sensor or no oil in the engine !!!!

The oil on my 40d is exactly on the max on the dipstick but the idrive says it's too full, so I know where you are coming from. Do you think it is worth talking some oil out so the dipstick level is lower?

General X5 Forum (F15) / Re: X5 - towing capacity increase
« on: February 17, 2018, 05:28:49 PM »
I think that the only thing that is upgraded for towing is a larger cooling fan - but how you know what the larger fan looks like compaired to a normal fan would be difficult. I think that the self levelling suspension is standard. With a factory fit towbar the wiring for the 13 pin socket should disable the reversing sensors so  when you select reverse with a caravan on the back they do not beep all the time.
You need to check that the 13 pin socket on the car is wired to run the caravan fridge, as BMW often do not do this.

Mine behaves as expected in the snow. It was sure footed most of the time - and only slid when I pushed a bit too hard in the snow, but that was on 20" wheels and summer tyres. The car behaved well and I had no issues in the snow and ice - some of which was 6" deep. :)

Problems / Re: Front brake disc retaining screw
« on: January 16, 2018, 07:45:10 PM »
My new discs that I fitted a few months ago came with new screws.
And the discs for our Z4 came with new screws too.
Maybe different brands of discs give you screws, mine were Brembo.

Mine were Pagid and I had to buy new rertaining screws.

New discs don't come with new screws, you have to buy them separately. I had to drill both of mine out as the garage who changed the discs last tightened the screws too much! Not sure what size tap you need. Don't really know why the screw is there as the 5 wheel studs hold the disc in place anyway!

Low 20s at a steady 70, high teens around town, low teens if you want to enjoy yourself.

Yep, that's about what I used to get out of mine :)

Update -

Dear All, a quick update to say that despite my best efforts I can't get hold of a back up and it looks like the site has gone - again. I can't quite believe it but I've been massively let down by a company called North Hosts who simply stopped provided a service last week with absolutely no warning. After some thought, I'm going to start again but this time with a bulletproof, watertight, nuclear winter proof site with built-in contingency to ensure that no-one can let me down like this again. I can't give an accurate timeframe of when this will happen but I'll start working on it asap. As ever, thanks for your patience and apologies again for the disastrous events over the past week.

Thanks for the update and all your efforts to get the site going again. Good news that you are going to start a new site :ok:

Same happened a few years ago but I had not followed it since. Was a new site started?

Yes, bmwland folded and BMWlander was started. It has been going for a few years now but it did have a problem a year or so ago when the site was down for a couple of days. BMWlander has been down for almost a week now :o :o
