The winter tyres are on and the wheels with summer tyres are off.  However, after 24000 miles the rears (Continental 285x45x19 111V RF) are worn out and need to be replaced for next year.  The fronts (Continental 255x50x19 111V RF) are only part worn with 4-5mm tread left. I have another pair of part worn fronts also with 4-5mm tread left that I could use so that in two summers time I'll surely need a full set!  By then the car (made in 2007) will be very long in the tooth!!

If I only replace the rears is the risk that the difference in circumference between front and back will damage the transmission too great to take?  Two new continentals for the rears are about £360 plus fitting. I can get new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 all round for about £620 plus fitting. I probably know the best answer but what advice do folks have?

After 20,000 or so miles I'm seeing uneven rear tyre wear.  The near-side one is noticeably wearing more quickly on the inside edge that the off-side one.  They are both almost worn down to the centre wear indicators, the near-side just a little more than the off-side one.  After a 50 mile or so drive at 70mph the near-side tyre is noticeably warmer to touch than the off-side one but in no way would I describe it as hot!

There is no sign of scraping, filing, feathering usual with mis-aligned tracking.  Tracking checked a couple of years ago and was within BMW spec.

Tyres are Continental Cross Contact runflats (summer tyres), 285 x 45x 19 111v.  . Car is 2007 7 seater with adaptive drive usually used in non-sport mode, and rarely carrying more than 2 people.  Car does about 16,000 miles per year of which caravan towing accounts for about 1500 miles per year.

They'll be coming off in a couple of weeks when the car goes in for service to a specialist indy, and winter tyres and wheels go on then.  Interestingly, they are Vredestein non-run flats, have done about 14,000 miles so far and no sign of uneven wear.

Wheels for summer tyres are M sport with greater offset than ones fitted with winter tyres.

Car seems to sit level on the road both front to back and side to side.  No visible or audible leaks in the air suspension.

Questions in my mind are -
1. has something altered on the near-side rear suspension recently - Continentals on wheels refitted May
2. Does the drive use the near-side more that the offside so heating the wheel more.

I'd value your comments please...

Good morning all,

Can anyone identify this pattern of BMW M sport wheel please and maybe give an idea of value?  I'm wanting to put them on Ebay with the proper description.

The fronts are E9Jx19 EH2 and the rears with more offset are E10Jx19 EH2.    Good condition with no kerbing.  Got them 2 years ago from a BMW dealer (customer had swapped for 20").  Fitted with Continental run-flats Cross-Contact. Average depth on fronts is 5.7mm across all grooves, on the rears 3.7 in the centre and 5.3 on the side grooves.

General X5 Forum (E70) / Park distance control

When started up this morning an error message "park distance control inoperative, contact BMW service..." came up - never seen before in 6 years of ownership!  Cleaned all the sensors but still comes up.  Car is a 2007 model E70 3.0d with 101000 on the clock!  Does anyone have any ideas please?
