General X5 Forum (F15) / Map north facing
« on: June 19, 2018, 05:18:20 PM »
I normally have the map displayed on the small split screen on the right, and on all my other BMW's there was a 'map north facing' option. I can't see it on here, so is there something that needs activating to display it?

General X5 Forum (F15) / M50d insurance
« on: June 04, 2018, 10:27:30 AM »
It's insurance renewal time, and I'm truly shocked at the premiums I'm getting back. I've used the comparison sites, BMW insurance, and Privilege, and all are coming back at over £1k per year.

That's for a 43 year old with maximum no claims, no points, and a named driver with maximum no claims, and no points.

Out of interest, I changed the car to a 2018 M3 Competition, which knocked £500 off the premium, and then tried a 2017 M6 Convertible, which knocked £400 off the premium!

Does anyone know why this car is so expensive to insure, and can anyone recommend a decent insurer, as I'd rather sell the car than pay over £1k to insure it?!

Until we see what the new X5 will look like.

According to the link, there will be an M50i, so my interest has been aroused!

General X5 Forum (F15) / Low battery warning since fitting dashcam
« on: April 02, 2018, 11:01:21 AM »
Ever since getting the dashcam fitted (with external power pack), if he car sits for more than a day, I get the low battery warning come up.

The car has been in to 2 dealers, both left it on charge overnight, and one updated the software, so said it was all sorted, and that the battery is fine.

Yesterday when I started the car, I got the warning again.

Has anyone else experienced this? The dashcam is a Blackvue DR750.

General X5 Forum (F15) / No more scratches.....
« on: April 01, 2018, 07:18:05 PM »
Just had the car detailed over the last two days by Definitions Detailing, based in Farnborough, Hampshire. All I can say is WOW, they have made the car better than brand new, and it looks amazing.

General X5 Forum (F15) / Eurotunnel width
« on: March 10, 2018, 08:44:15 PM »
As I’m planning on taking the car over to France in the Summer, and the Eurotunnel carriages are quite narrow (I use the tunnel regularly on my bike, and have seen lots of people trashing their wheels), are people generally using the HGV carriages in their X5’s?

Buy and sell / Bimmian WeissLicht H7 LED headlight bulbs - brand new
« on: March 08, 2018, 09:36:35 AM »
As above, these are brand new and unused H7 LED bulbs that will fit most BMW models.

I'll do them for £100 including postage in the UK.

General X5 Forum (F15) / Cheap carbon
« on: March 07, 2018, 09:43:12 PM »
I’ve been looking at the BMW carbon kit for my car. The fitted price for everything is coming in at just under £3k. A few of the guys on the US forum have fitted the Chinese carbon. The cost for the full kit is around £600 shipped, so is a huge saving.

Has anyone here fitted the Chinese stuff? It doesn’t appeal that much, but at that price could be worth a punt. Especially as the most expensive part (front splitter) is likely to get covered in stone chips anyway.

What’s the consensus?

The demon on my shoulder keeps telling me that I need some M carbon accessories. I can’t seem to shake him off!  :))

General X5 Forum (F15) / Wireless iPhone charging
« on: February 07, 2018, 07:29:35 AM »
My car doesn’t have the extended Bluetooth option, so what are my options for wireless charging my iPhone X?

Does anyone use the BMW snap-in wireless charging adapter?

General X5 Forum (F15) / Cornering lights upgrade?
« on: February 03, 2018, 04:48:22 PM »
So, there was me thinking there are no more old fashioned bulbs left on the car after doing the LED indicator upgrade, and low and behold, the cornering lights (the ones inside the inner side of the main headlight unit, not the foglights) are traditional halogen bulbs! Has anyone upgraded these to LED?

I like the Bimmian lights, but can’t see anything on their website. Any ideas?

General X5 Forum (F15) / New dashcam being installed tomorrow
« on: February 01, 2018, 08:39:43 PM »
I’ve been thinking about getting one for a while, so tomorrow I’m getting a Blackvue DR750S-1CH installed. Anyone on here got the 750? It seems to get good reviews.

General X5 Forum (F15) / Light scratches on piano black trim
« on: January 15, 2018, 07:33:21 AM »
So, what’s the consensus on removing a couple of fine scratches? I’ve got some Xerapol in the garage, which is great for removing scratches from the plastics on my bikes, but wondered if it would be any good on the piano trim? I’ve also heard that Novus 2 may be good.

Thoughts?

General X5 Forum (F15) / That was lucky!
« on: January 11, 2018, 05:28:04 PM »
I noticed that some of the blue dye from my new jeans had stained the white leather in the car earlier. :'(

Luckily I had some Auto Glym leather cleaner, so have managed to get rid of the marks (and cleaned all of the seats at the same time!).

What do you guys recommend, to make sure this doesn’t happen again? I’ve already put all my new jeans through the wash this afternoon, before anyone says that! :))

General X5 Forum (F15) / Coding help needed
« on: January 09, 2018, 04:26:55 PM »
So I've got the Bimmian LED indicators installed, and working as they should, but they flash on startup, then a quick flash every minute while the car is moving.

Some Googling revealed that it's possible to disable the self diagnostics on the front indicators, which would stop this from happening. My BMW dealer is going to have a look on Friday for me, but failing that, does anyone know of anyone in Surrey that can plug my car in, and disable this?
