General X5 Forum (E53) / X5 2011 4.0D - thoughts pls?
« on: Yesterday at 11:23:01 AM »
Hi there

I am strongly considering buying this car, click on below link. It looks clean, has the 'ideal' engine (in my humble opinion) and the powered tailgate extra I think is very handy for the wife (not that she knows that yet)! I can negotiate on the price.

Looking forward to hearing peoples thoughts.

Thank you in advance.

Hello

Would be interested to hear any current/former drivers out there with this engine and what your thoughts/feedback are with it. Running costs, performance, economy etc etc.

Fully aware are of the 4.0D engine, hence why I’m writing this post.

Thank you kindly.

Hello readers

I’m about to buy a LCI 2011 M Sport 4.0D over a LCI 3.0 D M Sport. Has anyone on here bought or owned a 4.0 D?  Any helpful advice or reviews please would be greatly appreciated.

General X5 Forum (E70) / higher mileage v lower mileage
« on: June 18, 2018, 03:37:55 PM »
Hello

I am in the market for a 2nd gen X5, budget up to approx. £18k. I am deliberating whether I buy a new model (2010 onwards with the updated I drive, gear box, angel eyes FCI) with a higher mileage, over a lower mileage pre 2010 model (with the old idrive navigation system, amber angel eyes, etc).

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

General X5 Forum (E70) / 2009 - 2010 plate
« on: June 17, 2018, 08:15:25 PM »
Dear readers

I am looking at buying a 2nd gen X5, around the 2009-2010 era. Am I correct by saying from 2010+ the cars all have the 'updated' i drive system built in? Also are the angel eyes updated to the white rings from this year onwards? Is there anything else important which also has been updated that I am missing?

Any clarity on the above would be hugely helpful  :)

I am debating whether I buy a 2008-09 model with a very low mileage (around 45k) - and the compromise is it comes with the older idrive system, old angel eye colour (amber) etc. Or, I buy a slightly newer model, 2010 plate or maybe 2011 (if budget allows) which has a higher mileage (around 60k) but has the updated idrive, angel eyes etc.

Hello
Does anyone know what year/reg plate on the E70 (2nd gen) X5 the angel eyes were upgraded from the amber colour to the ice white?
Is upgrading from amber to the latter possible in a garage or is it very expensive to do so? I guess the white lights don't offer much better visibility from the amber, they just look aesthetically improved!
Thank you

General X5 Forum (E70) / Apple carplay

Dear readers

Has anyone fitted the above to a second gen X5? I am likely to buy a 2008 or 09 plate and therefore Airplay won't be a feature. Having got an Iphone X does anyone know they best way of streaming music to the car?

Thank you.

Dear fellow readers  8)

I have come across the above vehicle in black (with black leather), 2 owners from new with FSH. Asking £14,500. Extras include:

heated seats
rear privacy glass
20 inch alloys

Seems a very good price given the above (doesn't have all the extras I want but beggars can't be choosers I guess). Any thoughts/suggestions before I part with my hard owned savings?!

Thank you gratefully  :)
(excited soon to be X5 driver, hopefully)!

Hello
Is the above warranty any good?
The car I am looking at buying is a 2009 3.0D M Sport model which exempts it from the Platinum cover.
Thank you.

General Discussion / Tracker advice
« on: June 08, 2018, 03:03:25 PM »
My insurer (Aviva) require a 'category 6' tracker to be fitted onto the vehicle (2009 3.0D M sport) for it to be insured! Value of the car is approx £14,500.

Any advice as to which company I need to get it from would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Hello
I am in the market looking for an E70 X5 M sport for my family, ideally with under 60,000 miles (with FSH) and as fewer owners from new. Budget capped at £15,000.
I have never bought a ‘4x4’ vehicle before, let alone a second hand one. Therefore I am being somewhat more careful of purchasing one as they are generally more expensive to run/service than any of my former cars (1 series, 3 series, C class).
I guess my budget will dictate what I can afford in the end but does anyone have any useful suggestions to make before I make my purchase?
Many thanks in advance.
 :)

General Discussion / BMW Warranty
« on: June 01, 2018, 03:44:09 PM »
Hi there

I am looking at buying a E70 X5 for my family, ideally with under 60,000 miles (with of course FSH). The BMW warranty I see is approx £100 pcm under the 60k mileage threshold for this car/model, then its almost double the cost pcm if the vehicle has done over 61k miles.

Does anyone have any experience with BMW warranties - are they worth paying for? I know there are cheaper warranties out there (such as The AA or RAC) but I have read from other forums that the companies always try to wriggle out of paying when you need to make a claim).  BMW warranty seems not to be quite the case?

Any help would be appreciated before I take the plunge in buying one of these cars.

Many thanks.
