Is this the car equivalent of spokey dokeys?  :))

Rich not sure which M50d model you driving, but if it's F15 your car is equipped with as you called it "spokey dokeys" as standard from factory. 😳😳
Same as new BMW M5 lol
However it's called ASD - active sound design, where fake exhaust and engine note is transmitted via build in hifi speakers for enhanced driving pleasure 🤷‍♂️
Active Sound exhaust is an option for it.

Here is one for E70 m50d Lci

 :P

Yep, it’s a late 2017 F15, so I guess it has it. I thought that it sounded throaty inside the cabin!

👍🏻👍🏻

See, spokey dokeys in £70k car, not as bad as You thought...

Difference is that your ASD is fooling only you and your passengers, and dead quiet outside...
Mine is also fooling other drivers... :)) :P

Yeah man
Bit dearer obviously...

Sounds pretty good but excuse my ignorance, what exactly has been done to get the sound?
Is it a new exhaust or something that is controlled by an app?

Sadly no exhaust will make our diesels sound good.
Unless you take everything out including dpf and put a straight pipe all the way.

This is same as audi system.
Stainless steel chamber connected to ecu. Usually fitted to exhaust as well.
When I ordered one for my f30 from BMW, it was welded to the exhaust.

As this is a retrofit you have a choice to fit it where you prefer.
If welding is an option you can weld it next to exhaust like oem as its waterproof.
As X5 have loads of unused space in a boot I fitted mine internally, and run stainless steel pipe outside through the boot.
There is a ready 68mm hole in X5 inside the boot that's plugged with rubber seal.

This is a final look,
Removal shouldn't take more than 20 minutes prior to selling.

General Discussion / X5 e70 40d Active Sound Exhaust Booster Experience
« on: January 15, 2018, 01:08:29 PM »
Afternoon to all

Some of you may have heard about it before. Some not.
Some will hate it and some love it.

Wanted to share my experience with E70 and Exhaust Sound Booster from Insideperformance Germany

Its not for everyone, but me being a car enthusiasts, I needed it and I love it.

Having some performance cars in past, driving a diesel is a bit dull for me.
There is a power and torque but no exhaust note whatsoever.

Active Sound system is already fitted as standard to all BiTurbo audis Like A7 or SQ5.

BMW offer it as a Performance upgrade to some F models.
I personally had it fitted by BMW to my previous diesel F30 330d.
It was a lovely car to drive, sporty orientated but no sound on a back at all.
Active Sound exhaust made it complete car to me and I could enjoy every minute in it.

Coming back to E70.
There is no dealer option for any E models sadly.
So I have decided to source some from Germany where they are made originally.

Company I bought it from is called Inside Performance.
Despatched by DHL on Wednesday arrived Friday.

It is fully controllable via ios or Android app
You can change the tone and volume and set few driving profiles.
You can also control it in a car via dsc or cruise control buttons.
In newer F models it can be controlled by Comfort/sport buttons.

Fitted on Saturday.

Below is a little video I recorded yesterday.

Have a listen with headphones or speakers for real feel

As siad before I am aware that for some people it will be no go and some will love it like myself.
A bit like a mini Cooper shape - hate it or love it

Enjoy  :)) 8) 8)

A lot of money for a small bit of plastic.
At least you know that you can buy the part.
Shame you don't know why yours doesn't have it when others do, with or without cold climate option.

Well the way I read it is that I shouldn't have it.
This is a third dealer telling me I don't have it because my car as all UK CARS is not a Cold Climate version S842A 😂😂
Question is why yours and few other peoples car have it where it shouldn't have.

PM/ email Cotswold BMW who are members on here with your VIN and that photo of the correct part and ask them is it part number 13717812062
They will quote a discount price for forum members and post out parts

So I have emailed cotswold yesterday as suggested.
Here is their reply for everyone to read:

"Hi Martin,

Thank you for your enquiry.

You are correct in saying it is only listed for cars with S842A cold-climate version. It does not list when using your vehicle details as you say you do not have this option.

It is called a Bypass valve and if you wish to buy the part, it would be non returnable/unwarrantable due to not being listed for your vehicle.

The price is as follows:

£26.65

This price is valid for 7 days from today."

Just to add that my car is June 2010 so is also an early car.
From BMWs point of view your car is correct and ours are wrong as they dont have the cold climate option.
It could well be what X5Sport says and our cars were an oversight and had it fitted by accident as thats what they had available.

You may be right 🤔🤔
Or maybe they were fitting it to every other one just for a laugh lol😳😳😳

Looking at realoem

Same part

Bmw x3 30d uk version
Part is greyed out, not avaliable at all, meaning there would be a hole left in it.
No cold climate version available on this diagram.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=WY52-EUR-07_2009_F25_BMW_X3_30dX&diagId=13_1405#13717812062

BMW x3 30d USA version
Same part listed as standard equipment, no cold climate and no option not to have it.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=WY33-USA-06_2013_F25_BMW_X3_28dX&diagId=13_1405#13717812062

This is some sort of a joke this realoem and BMW in this case.

Mine is a UK car and has it fitted though.....  ???  In which case it should be standard on a UK car, or at least that would be my view.  It almost looks like a bypass door as used on jet engines at high power settings to pull in extra air - warm air in the case of these cars perhaps? - and closed when not required.

Unless there were a load that went out with them because that is all the factory had?  Mine is quite an early 40d (Oct 2010 build).

Mine is November 2010 and doesn't have it.
If you look at the diagram there is a hole in a filter housing.
And that part is additional part under Cold Climate only

Can't see it being standard in UK.

Also it would have to be spring loaded somehow to open and close when more air is needed indeed.
But it's a plastic cover.

Nictrix has sent me a picture of his

Just a plastic,

Could you check if yours is same?
Any bmw part number?

Those numbers on this pic are not showing on Google at all

12

Is #13 a plate or a " Valve " ?????

Called bypass valve
But looks and obviously according to others is a plastic plate

There is no other item on the diagram that will fit there
And BMW call it bypass valve only because it should normally be open to draw warm air, and by putting a plastic cover with cold climate they bypassing it, and warm air is pushed to engine using heating elemnt connected to engine breather system.

Oh and forgot to mention.
I went to my dealership today and asked service technician to have a look.
He checked it and said that is how it should be in UK 😳😳

he than showed me on his computer that this part is not available in UK ( can be ordered if required)
And as soon as he changed the country code to Sweden or Norway it showed up as available...

How bizarre...

13
Mine has the plate too.

Any way you can check if there is a BMW part number on it?

14
Mine was registered in Edinburgh but has cold climate option not checked the air box yet .

You mean you have cold climate option S842a
But have not checked the filter yet?

Do i read it correct?

If yours is with cold climate then it should have the blanking plate attached

15
Checked my X6 40D today and it also has a plate.

Any chance for a picture mate?
There will be a part number on a plate. Could you tell me what it is please?

Many thanks
I will get a pic later and see if I can see a part number

It would be greatly appreciated mate
As I'm here confused as hell
I have taken some pics but wont be able to post them here till later tonight when I get home.
There is a part number on it but no BMW mark.
Numbers on it are SP06550 and PP T20.
If you have whats app on your phone PM me your number and I will send you them.

I have just noticed that you are based in Scotland
Apparently Scotland is classified as cold climate and therefore bmws sold in there can be equipped with Cold Climate Version meaning your engine will have special air heating element and should have this plastic cover as standard.
If you would put last 7 digits of your vin on this website
https://www.bmwvin.com

It will tell you all the options fitted in your car
And on the bottom there should be an option S842A - cold climate version

If that's the case than we will know that our cars without it wont have it and yours being cold climate is equipped with it as standard.

Many thanks for all the help
