Problems / Re: Soft close boot issue.

I’ve not had an issue with mine but it may just be an adjustment, see if there is anything useful here  https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e70-x5-3.0d-sav_200711/repair-manuals/51-body-equipment/51-24-tailgate-catch-locks/

Glad it’s fixed and thanks for coming back with the solution.

I have codes for 3 glow plugs but it still regens? I have previously changed both thermostats after noticing a drop in mpg which I would of noticed earlier if it had a temp gauge but had to use the hidden menu to find the coolant temp. I’ve since got Carly, which is much easier.

Have you got rear climate control or just the rear heated seats? If it's just the seats then gently prise off the panel with the heated seat switches in and swap the connectors over. If you've the rear climate then I don't know.

Sounds aftermarket as the seat heater switches should be part of the climate control panel if specced. You'll probably have to chase the wires from the switch to see where they are wired to, could be anywhere if aftermarket..

How-To / Re: Removing the front headrests?
« on: September 19, 2016, 06:08:08 PM »
They don't remove easily as they have wiring going up to the pyrotechnic for the anti-whiplash deployment. I wanted to fit DVD headrests but decided against it as its all part of the SRS system. Unless you're desperate to remove them I wouldn't mess with them.

Problems / Re: EGR Valve

Are you talking coolant temp? I had a similar coolant temp which caused the mpg to drop off. I replaced the main and egr thermostat and that cured it.

As no one else has come up with anything yet the only thing I can recommend is to put your ear to each sensor in turn and listen for a clicking noise. The one that isn't clicking is the dodgy one. I've not had any issues with my E70 but it worked to diagnose a problem on my E53.

I replaced my OSR a couple of months ago with one from Airdominance. It's recommended you do both sides, I didn't  ::) now my NSR has gone pop on the way home. I've just ordered another to arrive tomorrow. Sunday is looking dry so I'll do it then. There is a good write up on Xoutpost, it took about 1.5hrs to do on my drive. Most of the time was getting everything together and jacking it up.

Problems / Re: 434E Cooling Air Flap System?
« on: September 03, 2015, 05:40:48 PM »
Radiator flaps that open and close for quicker warm up. Not on early models, I believe they came in with the reduced emissions so late 2007.
Are they opening and closing depending on whether the car is hot or cold?
Incidentally mine is a oct 2007 with lower emission but no rad flaps, I thinks it's because I have active steering?

General X5 Forum (E70) / Re: Towbar, which type?
« on: August 29, 2015, 10:38:49 AM »
I fitted a Bosal detachable to mine. Very neat and easy to use, the electics even swivel up out of the way when not in use. I find it better than the Witter that was on my E53. I don't know if it's the same with other bars but you do lose the 2 tow hook screw in points through the bumper though.
Try P F Jones for a great choice and price.

Hope you got it sorted ok. I'm playing catch up on a not so sunny day in Devon. The electrics worked as they should towing from Lincoln to Woolacombe so happy days.

Mine was done just before I bought it and according to the invoice they also replaced a heat shield FOC. I called the dealer where it was done and the very nice lady didn't know what heat shield. It's not under warranty so I don't know why it was changed FOC. Anyone else have this done?

General X5 Forum (E70) / Re: Upgrading the E70 factory fit speakers.?

I've been having a search through various forums, sadly not BMWLand, and one poster had fitted JBL Titanium GTO17T tweeters to the base set up and said it made a massive difference. I listen to the radio 90% of the time so this might be enough?

Sound wasn't top of my list when I bought mine, I just checked it worked. Having had it a few weeks I'm not happy with it, my E53 sound was better. I have professional nav but no amp in the rear so just basic set up. As per the OP I'm interested in any first hand experience for improved sound without going down the audiophile root. Thanks.
