General X5 Forum (E70) / Re: High battery discharge
« on: Yesterday at 06:53:25 PM »
Is it an AGM battery, 15v is not far off the mark, if it's has a lead acid battery this may have been too much for it
As the car needs to be coded/ registered to the car, i.e. If it's a lead acid or an AGM needs to be registered to allow for the correct charge rate.
As X5Sport has mentioned , could be just a duff or old battery.
Battery problems can be a frustrating problem to sort out, good luck

Slightly off topic, but one for caravan owners.
I’m presently caravaning in Northumberland.
Our last trip was to the Solway Firth area of Scotland, where I failed to secure the electrics cable from the 13 pin car socket to the caravan at a height that would clear the tarmac on the many humpback bridge crossings on the coast road 😳
When I realised the right indicator wasn’t leaping when I was on the motorway we stopped at the services to find the cable was worn down to the bare cores .
We keep our van at a storage place that has a caravan service bay, so asked rhem
To sort it out by re routing the cable and gaining enough length to do away with the damaged piece
On Picking it up on Saturday morning before our long trip up to here , the ATC ( caravan stability control light and the fridge refused to work, after much swearing I traced it to an in-line fuse for the fridge/ ants/ pin 13 permanent 12 v feed.
This is the wire BMW fail to connect on OEM installs, so beware anyone who has this safety system, and has a BMW install, also your GIN and Tonic will not be at the correct temperature when you get to site.
I’m also not looking forward to the 3 1/2 hour trip home tomorrow as the forecast is for 53 MPH winds 😩😩😩😩

General Discussion / Re: Auto Light Sensor F15

I've always found this a problem with BMW's, there should be / or maybe there is a setting in the IDrive to alter sensitivity of the sensors. It needs to be quite dark before they come on.
Also I've had a few BMW's with auto wiper function, and can never find that I can alter the wipe frequency to suit
Adequate vision., where as my VW and Kia are spot on.!!!!!
IS IT ME !!!!! Probably 😀😀😀😀

Maybe wrong, but isn't Dynamic Pack on theSE just give you larger  wheels and sports suspension and pro nav ?
And possibly sports seats

I bought my old X3 from Rogers of Brock.
Mixed reviews on the internet with reference to their follow up regarding problems
Had to change all4 tyres on mine the day of purchase.
Glowplugs and controller etc, but as any car dealer they just buy them in and flip them.
The X5 in the advert looks tidy.
I'm in two minds if to risk buying another Beemer, since I've had the Kia it's been 100% reliable as has the wife's Honda CRV.
The X3 and the E93 gave us a lot of trouble prior to us changing ours.
Hope you end up with a good one 👍

Great price, unfortunately I can't afford the £75k X5 50d Msport to put it on 😳😳😳😳

On my E83 X3 the aux jack plug was accessed via the jack plug socket in the rear of the centre console, sit in the back seats to get a better look.
Seem to remember it was behind a flap.
Mine was a 3.0 d Msport 2009

Sounds like you may be better getting the codes read, is the part you have stripped just a slip ring or a combined slip ring and Steering Angle Sensor .

General Discussion / Re: Square set-up & transmission issues?
« on: August 25, 2018, 05:49:28 PM »
Is there any evidence that the much-debated xDrive transmission woes are more prevalent on cars with staggered wheels/tyres?  Does running "square" reduce the likelihood?

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I've searched around the forum and haven't found any posts relevant to this specific query.

Square setup enables 4 identical tyres to be used = Identical rolling circumference = no transmission wind up😀

Is it an Msport ?
Is it running a staggered setup ?
What tyre sizes are you running at the moment ?
My E83 was running on 19/235/ on the front and 19/255/40 on the rear ( staggered setup
I had transmission problems
As the staggered rims ( Msport ) are only 1/2 wider on the rears I was able to fit 19/255/40 on all 4 corners.
So a full set of new matching tyres, no need for star marking, as they are now all identical profile/ make etc
All my troubles went away for £90 a corner

General X5 Forum (E70) / Re: Anyone changed comfort access door handle?
« on: August 16, 2018, 07:41:12 PM »
Worked this one out for myself on discovering the exterior handle was hot to touch.  :o

Removed the handle and disconnected the wires to temporarily solve the problem.

Anyone know the approximate cost I could expect to pay for a new 'Comfort Access' handle?
Go on real OEM BMW and type in the last 7 digits of your VIN, this gives your cars specific parts list, search out the
Part needed, email  otswold BMW, say your a forum member and they will quote you the part at a discounted price
( just make sure you are seated before you open the reply email 😬
