Does look like the Zafera across the road 😀
Only joking 😀
I'm impressed by the interior and if it drives as good as it looks, I'd be happy.
I wouldnt think twice about  buying a BMW in  Warranty , unfortunately my usage and budget can't justify it.
My sons got a  2017 435 d Grand coupe and the IDrive is miles better than
previos efforts, they have finally caught up with present day tech.
Hope you enjoy it more than the Skoda.👍

General Discussion / Re: EU tyre efficiency labelling

Are you running the same size tyres on all 4 corners? Or are you running the staggered setup ?
As you have mentioned only one tyre size and 17" rims
If they are all the same size / profile you don't have to worry about * markings, just buy 4 identicle tyres.
That gives you much more options and cheaper 😀

General X5 Forum (E53) / Re: Wide-screen head unit
« on: July 12, 2018, 07:34:58 PM »
The small screen headunit is a MK3 I believe, the widescreen one is the MK4, so you would need the MK4 DVD satnav drive that lives in the rear cubby.
Check if it's plug and play, there will be loads of info on the net, as it was a popular upgrade years ago.
Personally the expense may be more than half of what you could get an aftermarket unit which has 7 digit postcodes and iPod integration Bluetooth etc
I think the MK4 system is very very dated 🙁

Post a photo on the forum, sounds like your kit may not be OEM

Problems / Re: Alarm going off randomly - E70 X5
« on: July 12, 2018, 07:18:12 PM »
My X3 used to go off randomly, coded out tilt sensor, then internal sensors still no good,
Disconnected the plug from the bonnet alarm switch, never did it again.
As for going off whilst driving, ne rear had that as it wouldn't be armed 😳

General Discussion / Re: DPF Cleaning in South Manchester/Cheshire

I did mine myself and did the swirl flaps whilst I had the inlet manifold off, depends on how good you are on the spanners.
Also if you shear off any of the glowplugs 😬😬😬😬
Used a full tin of penetrating fluid over a couple of hours before I dare try to get mine out.
Glow plug relay is a mare to get at.
I'd wished I'd had someone else do it by the time I was halfway through the job😀
Glowplug relays are about £65 off EBay, ( same make as OEM ) glowplugs are around £15 each

Sorry can't recommend anyone for the job, but can recommend you get the codes checked and see if the glowplugs/ glowplug relay are still OK, as these are a common failure on BMW Diesel engines.
If either these are not working the DPF will not regenerate.
Sort these and it may not need the DPF cleaning, or if you have it cleaned it will block again

Could it be that they have sent you one for a left hand drive car?

General X5 Forum (E53) / Re: Egr delete
« on: July 07, 2018, 08:42:31 PM »
Hi has anyone done an egr delete on the 3.0d
Is it worth it are there many gains
And where to buy from
Thanks

I have removed the EGR valve and cleaned it out with Carb cleaner then refined it, once refitted I have left the vacuum hose off ( plugging the rubber hose with a Golf tee to stop the vacuum being lost) this prevents it from opening the EGR valve.
You can buy stainless steel through pipes to replace the EGR valve from eBay, but as the 3.0 d engine is no racing engine I guess the original orifice must be good enough. So probably a waste of money.
Note. When removing the 4 cap head Alan screws that secure the EGR valve place a rag underneath, as you will drop the screws unless you have a magnetic Allan key

Problems / Re: Rear suspension conversion from air to spring
« on: July 02, 2018, 08:03:08 PM »
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E70-X5-Rear-Air-Suspension-Bag-Coil-Spring-Conversion-Kit-2007-2013-/132056292613
A few on here over the last few years have converted the E53's to coil springs and coded out the warnings for the dash
Kits are available as per link, not sure if Carly or inpa needed or possible to code out the warnings
Defiantly less chance of problems once completed.

Alternator bearing or water pump

Thanks for the suggestion mate. Just wondering what makes you say water pump or alternator bearing? I would have expected to see other symptoms if it was either of these two.
I had a clicking noise on my 330i when cold which increased with engine revs, turned out to be the alternator freewheel pulley, so don't eliminate these suggestions

Get a 5 GT.
What an under estimated car that BMW made that didn't sell well, it can be bought at a bargain
price too.
I just found a great car on Auto Trader:

It's not an easy job is it 😬 I'm sure it must be a production decision to put it there, but the heat soak from the engine can't be helpful for any electronic device.
As you say it would have been a 5 Minute  job if access was easy.
Also for such an unreliable part it's a major headache to change 🙁
