General X5 Forum (E70) / Thats different to the normal MoT issues
« on: March 16, 2018, 09:12:01 PM »

As you do I had the X5M in for Its MOT and mentioned the problem with reduced engine power that came up on the CIC screen about a week ago and also the indicator repeater in the near side wing looked like it had been pushed in. So the end car went in Wednesday night.

Then on Thursday I get a call from BMW to say they have investigated and the sensor is reading a fault. It could be the spark plug or ignition coil or possibly an injector on cylinder 3 on my petrol V8. So they are ordering a spark plug and ignition coil for it d then they will MOT the car after due to the emissions. They had now reseated the indicator and it was no okay.

Today, Friday I get a call and they have fitted the the new spark plug and ignition coil and it is still reading a fault on the car and so they are now ordering a complete set of 8 injectors for the car. These will be here Monday and I have been assured once they are fitted it will again be running at full power and then the car can be MOT'd.

So I am glad I got the car with the BMW comprehensive insured warranty as it should cover the cost as only done about 2,000 miles since I got it as its a weekend car  :)

Roll on Monday

General X5 Forum (E70) / Bmw insured warranty
« on: March 13, 2018, 04:49:36 PM »

Well it's that time already as I've had the car X5 for two years and not really done that much mileage so far, but enjoyed driving it every time. The car came with a 2 year BMW warranty provided and is due for renewal in April.

Given the complexity of the car with all the electrics and sensors I decided to go for a warranty without question.

I have had several aftermarket ones on previous cars, including the AA, and they all end up arguing about the repair as to what is and what isn't covered, which can be a pain. So I chose to go with BMW again as it probably the best on the market especially from reading Condors posts on her 4.8i on how good it's been.

I went for the comprehensive cover, so covering both mechanical and electrical items for £1,002 with an excess of £100 which was less that I thought it would be when looking at previous posts on the subject. The no excess policy was another £400 on top and I really couldn't justify that difference.

So hopefully I won't need it, but if I do I have that peace of mind, so it's happy motoring. I just have to get the MoT on the Thursday and the Road Tax at the end of this month.

Since renewing the warranty I then had a call from BMW asking if I'm interested in a new X5, which is probably no now, but you never know :)) >:D

General X5 Forum (F15) / Retro fit an Electrronic Towbar
« on: January 20, 2018, 01:58:09 PM »

I am considering upgrading to the new F85 X5M a used car but seen a car but it doesn't have the electrically deployable tow bar, which my current car has.

So my question is can you get BMW or Pf jones to retro fit to the newer X5M an Electrically deployable Tow Bar, like the factory fit option or is it only the manual one ?

I did check their website and can't see if you can

Hi All

I have just heard today about the Governments intention to ban all petrol and diesel cars in 2040, after France has already stated this.

So as the clock is now ticking for all of us is it time to start thinking about changing, as some have done on here to

   a) hybrid or b) fully electric ?

And what is this going to do to sales and prices of new and secondhand petrol and diesel (fossil fuel) cars ?

My post just went up and I thought I was doing well until I had a look at the members list and the number of posts.

There is X5Sport is top and his post count over 14,000 in total, but what surprised me was it was nearly the same as the next 3 people combined (Sanj Pvr and Raj)

Seriously impressed with his dedication to the cause. :punk:

General Discussion / Emissions and New charges in French cities
« on: April 05, 2017, 08:05:35 AM »
Hi all

There are some new charges in France.

I was sent this link by the RAC about emissions and the introduction of a clean air certificate in French cities called Crit'Air vignette which is in force and is now needed to drive in their cities and if you don't have one you can be fined.

It also has links to the French website where you can apply for a certificate and is based on your cars emissions. I couldn't find a table show the cost unless you apply.

So worth a read as I know quite a few head over there with their X5's

General X5 Forum (E70) / Car insurance and shopping around
« on: February 04, 2017, 03:27:08 PM »
I had the insurance renewal on the two cars come through, and I've had a multi car policy for 3 years with 3 various cars on it until this last year when I reduced to it to 2 cars, the X5M and Abarth 595.

Well last year when I swopped the old X5 and the 135i convertible for the X5 I had to pay another £500 odd on the policy to change.

Well this year the renewal came through and the price was £1360 (£1042 for the X5 and £318 for the Abarth) which I thought was a bit excessive,  :o

So I started the process of shopping around for better deals. Out come the comparison sites, there were various prices and but some of the excesses were £700 but their were a lot better prices.

The X5 has come in with the same limited mileage (which is just the mileage I do each year in it) and business use to meetings was £509 and the Abarth comes in at £231 with business use and both with the New insurer, but not on a multi car policy.

I did go back to the original company and the could drop price on the Abarth £50 and also the X5 £50 but it was no where near it, so I have waive goodbye to them.

So Total cost £740 and so massive saving £620 just for a couple of hours shopping around, and that just  about pays for the road tax on both cars, a result :drive::)

Problems / E70 steering wheel angle sensor
« on: January 26, 2017, 07:39:38 PM »

I had the X5 E70 come up with a fault, an intermittent one DSC and Xdrive failure as advised to stop and switch off and restarted it cleared so continued home Saturday.

So I booked the car into BMW as have a warranty, and they have checked it today and said it was the Steering Wheel Angle Sensor needed reprogramming, which was not covered by the warranty.

I had the same issue on the old E53 and it was just a case of turning the wheel slowly lock to lock and back again and it reset.

My Question is:-
Can you fix the problem the same way on the E70 by turning the steering wheel lock to lock and back again.

BMW said it needed reprogramming, but didn't expand on the method. Anyhow after a brief conversation on the phone about the cost of £40 it was waived by them.

Just please to have it back.

Is anyone else fro this forum intending going to this meet at British Heritage Museum at Gaydon Warwickshire on the Sunday 14/08/2016.

I am hoping to get along in my E70 X5

Since I have sold my E53 I have a set of KW V3 Coilover suspension for sale.

Thankfully my suspension never went wrong so never fitted to my car and so the set is now for sale.

Price is £850.00 ono (and cost circa £1600 when new)

The pics are below

Buy and sell / AC Schnitzer 22" wheels with tyres
« on: May 10, 2016, 08:28:48 AM »
Hi, I have my AC Schnitzer 22"wheels for sale.

They are a set of five 22"wheels, 4 of them are mint/very good condition, the last one was bought as a spare and it could do with being refurbished (it is the centre wheel in pic of five). They fit a E53 but not the E70 X5, and PCs is 120

The four mint wheels have Yokohama tyres 293/35/22 with 6-7mm depth on them. The spare wheel has a useable 285/35/22 on it and it's a Michelin tyre.

One wheels had a slow puncture and it turned out it was previous repair that was not up to standard, so I had that repaired and set of four refurbished about 18 months ago and since I have had no problems with them.

Price is £2200.00 ovno
