General X5 Forum (F15) / Concierge services - what a palaver
« on: June 14, 2017, 03:56:23 PM »
Anyone got this on their car?

I have had it on my last 2 X5's and having just spent more money on a new one I was surprised to see yesterday that it wasn't showing in the account for my new car on the connected drive customer portal - (there it was, gone!). Instead it was mentioned as one of the services I could buy as an extra.

A swift read of the Sales brochure seems to indicate that it should be standard: Shown as "standard" under audio and communication, with a footnote "active for 3 years, renewable thereafter" (page 21). Similar story on p 26, the Connected Services summary page.

So, I fired off a quick email to bmw to say that they'd forgotten to add it, but later in the day I'm actually in the car and so made a phonecall to bmw via the connected drive service in my car. First they said sorry thats a different department you want, you should go check with them or your dealer. When I said come on you are bmw, surely you know the answer - they offered to look into it and call me back the next day.

Sure enough they DO ring back this morning, tell me they've spoken to my dealer, it should be on the car from new and it should be resolved shortly - the dealer will be in touch. RESULT i think.

Then a couple of hours later I get an email reply from BMW - to my initial email. It says my one month trial is at an end and I can now purchase Concierge Services if I want.   :nono:  This is odd for 2 reasons: one I've never had a one month trial and two it contradicts the phone call from earlier. I fire off an email telling them they are rubbish and that what they have said is inaccurate and contradicts what I've already been told / have read in the brochure. Now waiting to see what they respond...

Next. I get a call from my dealer - Grassicks in Perth, Scotland, a few minutes ago.. Its just a courtesy call to say they are looking into it but salesman is off until tomorrow. I'm not too sure why that's relevant as it seems pretty obvious that the service should have been added and just needs sorting now but anyway the person calling doesn't seem to know, now waiting to hear from him tomorrow.  :wall:

Lastly, I go onto the BMW website configurator and build my car.... interestingly I am presented with an option   :o for concierge services for £240 (3 years).  :hypo:

I've got to say that despite having it on my last 2 cars I only used it about 5 times in all those years. It was useful on those occasions but most of the time I forgot i had it. Not sure I'd've  opted to take it if it had been presented to me as an optional extra this time.

I'm beginning to wonder if they changed their policy on it but hadn't updated the brochure.... or if it changed while mine was being ordered.

So, has anyone who has recently received a new X5 got this and did you have to pay for it separately?
Rant over

General X5 Forum (F15) / My new x5 arriving today...

So far only one pic from the detailer. Hope they did a better job with detailing than they did with the photograph!

General X5 Forum (F15) / What tracker to buy?
« on: May 04, 2017, 04:40:39 PM »
My new f15 M50d is in the country and awaiting dispatch to the dealer..... and so I'm thinking I may well need to get a tracker fitted.

Its not that I want to, but early indications are that it will increase my choice of insurer if i do so, given that I live in London and park my car on the street..... No tracker required on my current 30d, but I recall many insurers wanted one when I got that.

Anyway, I probably WILL be getting one and wanted to ask:
1. whether people have generally gone with the dealer fitted options (Cat 6 or Cat 5); and
2. if not, what make(s) would you recommend?

I see that independent fitters appear to be a lot cheaper than the dealer fitted options....

Thanks in advance..

So Ive ordered a new X5 M50d currently due for delivery in May. I haven't added enhanced bluetooth with wireless charging or apple car play preparation.

All I'm looking for in the car is the ability to:
1) make and receive phone calls via the car display and without having to connect the phone with a wire
2) stream audio from Apple music and Napster and Audible (all on my iphone), ideally via the car display and without having to connect the phone with a wire.
3) get Siri to read out my texts and dictate and send texts using the voice buton on the steering wheel

Can anyone advise what they can and can't do in their recent f15s ie with idrive 5.0?

General X5 Forum (F15) / Ordered a new X5
« on: February 24, 2017, 09:10:06 PM »
So, I've signed up for another few years on this forum as Ive just ordered a new F15.

I went for the m50d in carbon black with Msport plus pack, pano sunroof, heated rear seats, driver assist plus, parking assist, surround view and electric tow bar.

Delivery may be mid April if they can up spec an existing order slot.

I looked long and hard at the RRS but in the end opted for the X. Just want it here now. Pics will be posted when i get it!

General X5 Forum (F15) / Changing the wiper blades
« on: October 23, 2015, 12:17:46 PM »
So my car is 2 years old now and in for its first service - oil change and microfilters only (time dependent) as the mileage counter says another 7000 miles before it needs a service.

The service stuff is under the all inclusive plan thrown in at purchase, but I have also asked them to replace the wiper blades as they were squeaking on the screen. £70!

Just as well I took 3 bottles of water, some candy bars and a lift to the train station when i dropped it off this morning. Will need to help myself to more "freebies" when i collect. Do you think they'll help me load up the car?  O:-)

Problems / Windscreen replacement
« on: April 11, 2014, 11:25:20 AM »
So, I got a crack on my windscreen from a stone or something in the road being thrown up by another vehicle. Within 10 minutes it had spread from the initial point of impact to a crack 3 inches long, so no chance of a repair.

Still I thought, not the end of the world, I'll get the windscreen replaced. I thought about getting it done privately until Autoglass told me it would be £752   :o

So then I thought I'll just pay the £100 xs on my insurance and do it through them. That's not a problem. The problem is that having arranged it through Autoglass almost 2 weeks ago, the delivery timescale for the rubber top surround is 2nd May! :'(

I couldnt believe it so checked with BMW and apparently yes, there aren't any in the country and they are not expected in Germany until 25 April.

Luckily for me, the crack is at the very side (passenger) of the screen and hasn't moved since it happened, so the vehicle remains usable. Hard to believe though that if the windscreen was properly broken it would keep my car off the road for a whole month!

OK, rant over

Problems / Recall: dodgy heater? on 59 plate x5 30d msport
« on: January 30, 2014, 10:25:20 AM »
I'll start by saying I don't have a 59 plate X5 35d Msport..... but I did have until a couple of months ago.

Imagine my relief then when I got the envelope with the red border saying the model was the subject of a safety recall. Apparently in a few cases there is a potential for the vehicle to  :fuelfire:

I'm just posting here in case an existing owner doesnt get the letter (as happenned to me on a vauxhall I owned many years ago with results that ended up costing vauxhall 10k!).

oops, wrong forum, should be E70, can someone move me? :)

Can anyone tell me the cost, performance increase and what happens after I get the vehicle serviced (ie does the remap get wiped)?

General Discussion / Do we need a new forum for the new gen X5?

I'm thinking about buying one, am I the only person? :P

General Discussion / Thinking about a new x5 - new modell
« on: September 03, 2013, 12:03:32 AM »
Its a long time since I've been on this forum - used it a lot before and shortly after I bought my current x5 e70 35d msport.

That was 3.5 years ago and I've liked it so much I'm thinking about getting a new one in December.

As I have 35d, there's no direct replacement... My options are 30d in December or possibly feb for the 40d. I'd appreciate any discussion on how my 59 plate 6 speed 35d compares with the current 30d, as I'm told by the stealers that the new 30d is quicker than the current. Also comments on the current 30 vs the current 40 would be welcome.

I'll be going for an msport with sunroof and cameras plus upgraded stereo and darkened glass. Trying to figure out what all the telematics options are...

Finally, I bought a dog rack for my current car, sturdy and good fit, but I'm wondering if anyone has experience of the luggage separator as a dog guard. Pics make it look a bit flimsy and with quite a big space at either side. Dog is a Dalmatian btw. Thanks in advance to any contributors.

General X5 Forum (E70) / Carrying pushbikes
« on: January 08, 2011, 06:18:19 PM »
Hi all
I'm looking for some suggestions on how to carry two bicycles and a kids bike on the x5 e70 59 plate. I don't have a towbar and am struggling to find a rack that hangs them off the back. Do I need to go for roof mounting? Any recommendations welcomed.
