General X5 Forum (E53) / Time to say goodbye to the 4.6
« on: December 30, 2016, 06:44:04 PM »
After 7 years it's time to move on from the 4.6is  :(  :(. It's been a bumpy ride at times including a full engine rebuild after tensioner failure and a bodged repair by a so called expert. However it's done 50000 milrs since I did the engine myself and the noise and acceleration still make me smile.
To cheer myself up I have bought a 2012 X6M so the X experience continues  O:-) 24000 miles so the tensioners should have some life in them yet I hope  :o :o

Just been out in apocalytic rain this morning, and well impressed with the wading capabilties. In water past the fan and still going happily. Still not as good as my old Trooper which managed water up to the level of the windows  O:-)

Did 1000 miles to/around/from lakes. No water leaks, oil leaks, or engine warning lights. This is such an uncommon event for me, I thought I would share     . And 20mpg as well :D  :D

General Discussion / Tyre pressure sensors and MOT
« on: October 15, 2011, 10:25:07 AM »
Just been poking around the net and came across some articles regarding tyre pressure sensors and the MOT. I understand that from the 1st of Jan next year inoperative pressure sensors or a defective system will be an MOT failure. Can anyone confirm this?, if its true then it looks like 4 new sensors for me at £90 a pop :x

Problems / Dead Screen Revisited
« on: March 28, 2011, 05:48:31 PM »
I have a problem with my TV screen, when the ignition is turned on you can see the screen change colour slightly but nothing else happens. All of the functions appear to work (the lady behind the dash keeps telling me to turn left) but no pics. Any ideas guys? Cheers

After weeks of work, my 4.6 finally lives again :D  After repairing the damage caused by 'experts', and a full rebuild, its nice to hear the V8 again. Just got to get the front end back on and see if it drives.
So impressed I had to photograph the rev counter

How-To / My V8 Engine Rebuild
« on: September 03, 2010, 07:33:35 PM »
Hi Again
I posted on the last site about my problems which led to my V8 dropping a bottom end. Anyway I have started to build the engine up and thought I would post some pics as I went on (if I have done it right). Just to to get my head around BMWs bearing colour coding
