General X5 Forum (E53) / Grill
« on: March 22, 2018, 08:36:09 PM »
Got a crack on the grill, looking on EBay, a lot of choice with original, full chrome etc, the full chrome I like but there seems issues with the years.
Some say 2000 to 06. Some say up to 04 facelift.
So, are the bonnet grills all the same or is the facelift a different design ?

General X5 Forum (E53) / Tyres
« on: February 25, 2018, 03:17:27 PM »
If a tyre is the same Brand and  type does it matter if I have the rears marked 107 V and the fronts 107W ?
Just got a chance to buy 2 W marked ones from a tyres place local at a bargain price but I have V marked on rear

Would it affect handling or Stopping distance at all

General X5 Forum (E53) / Spare wheel use
« on: January 18, 2018, 12:43:46 AM »
Evening all

just a question, looks like the standard spare wheel is a 17” with a Michelin tyre on.
I keep reading threads about mixed tyres and affecting the boxes and gearbox etc
so. i take it . its safe to use this 17” wheel as a spare when required if you have a puncture but would its different tyre size etc not affect the autobox and drivetrain .
i dont suppose that BMW would provide a spare that is going to cause problems anyway but just wondered after all the reading on sizes, diameters, circumference and every other setting

General X5 Forum (E53) / Ctek battery sense
« on: January 15, 2018, 04:58:33 PM »
Evening all
Bought one of these bluetooth modules and a Ctek charger and comfort lead.
Fully charged it and after 2 weeks am down to 60% , not been in car except to open door once.
It seemed to last about 4 weeks before i fitted this battery sense and the comfort lead with the little lights on it

I wonder if something else is draining the battery, i have an automotive current tester that Maplins sell where you push it in the fuse hole you want to test and put the fuse you removed into the tester to compete the circuit.

As there are so many circuits and fuses are there any where i should start and fuse number if possible.
Also do i need to sit in the car 15 mins for it to sleep so i can then test the circuits or is there a way to overcome this situation

General X5 Forum (E53) / Why winter tyres here
« on: December 13, 2017, 11:42:07 PM »
Forgive my maybe daft question but in 35 yrs of motoring  ive never had a car that needed winter tyres.

We have this X5 now and i know i dont need tyres for winter as the cars hardly used anyway.

But why cant the car simply have a set of year round tyres, its not like we get the snow of decades ago any more and surely the tread on normal tyres can cope with rain in winter

Just curious as i seem to read so much about this subject. just Green on certain things  :xmasevil:

General X5 Forum (E53) / CTEK charger question
« on: December 08, 2017, 09:16:18 PM »
Hi all
going to invest in a ctek, Amazon have one on at moment with a comfort connector, it says m10 eyelets,

on looking  they do a m6 and m8 as well,    Is the m10 the correct size eyes for the underbonnet charge points

General X5 Forum (E53) / Cold snap, Webasto question
« on: November 17, 2017, 11:05:56 PM »
Hi all
First 2 c   so after checking cleaning etc  fitted new fuel gauze in the Webasto, it actually fired up and the heater body got quiet warm to the touch though the exhaust was coolish,  after few mins though it shuts down,    if i stop car and restart,  the cycle repeats,   fires up, fan humming , fuel pump ticking about once a second,  then for some odd reason the pump stops   and it dies down.
Any ideas welcomed,  have read all the posts,  but havent found my problem covered, its usually none start,  but mine does run a short time.

General X5 Forum (E53) / Battery life
« on: November 09, 2017, 11:33:28 AM »
Morning all

Used car one month ago to the day,  went out and just fired up could tell though the batt was well deplated, nothing left on only whatever the car may use stood outside.
Any idea if this is right that a month stood doing nothing would lead to discharge.
After short run  all back to normal rapid turnover and start up

Have put on trickle charge to top up.  Battery big Bosch new last March when we got car.

Problems / Webasto outside temp sensor
« on: September 22, 2017, 07:13:29 PM »
Evening all
still trying to get this sod working,  does anyone know if the Webasto takes the reading for the outside temp from the same sensor that goes to the dash,  when unplugged it will read -40 on the dash,   or you can get it to +1 if you stick it in icy cubes.
Cant get beyond the start up, seems normal, fan on, fuel pump ticking, fan ramps up to max,  the shuts down after few mins. No fault codes on the inpa. Glow plug tested on ohms and with 12v applied glows red. See there is a chap on Ebay sell the inner gauze that the fuel seeps onto, told me if it was black it needs changing as that could be the cause. Puts instructions on if anyone wants a look,  you have to make a cut to remove the housing. not cheap though. Mine looks in same condition as the one he has from the dismantle photos.
