General X5 Forum (E53) / Leaky air con
« on: August 09, 2018, 05:08:08 PM »
Hi all
Just a quicky on the  BMW Mini as you chaps know all the answers.  tried on a Mini forum but got nothing.
bought few weeks ago and owner said had air con topped up.
After 2 weeks its warm again,  took to Kwik fit for their free service if it wont fill.

Their machine tested and the system held pressure.
Refilled.   2 weeks of cold air.
2 weeks later   warm again,  took back to KF who told me they would refund .
stated their top end machine would have not filled if a leak detected,  he calculated the system had lost 500grams from the amount put in over 2 weeks  which is a decent leak and the machine should have failed to fill.

He has refilled for free to assure the machine is not at fault and again it detected no leaks so refilled.

Bit beyond me,  anyone know why no leaks showing but its losing the gas after 2 weeks , i have a feeling it will leak out again and wondered about these leak stop agents,   found a decent sounding one online maybe better than the usual STP or Carplan type products,, wondered if anyone knew anything about them.
I know the system needs a dye etc etc but KF cant do that, may sell car soon anyway so just wanted a summer cool.
Heres the link to this supposed miracle sealer and the bumpf

General X5 Forum (E53) / Wheel wobble
« on: August 07, 2018, 02:31:26 PM »
Hi all
Having a problem with E53 19" front wheels   cant get them balanced.

Bought them few months ago from a seller on this forum, They are the same size as original wheels but the later E70 design.   local garage balanced them 3 times, to no avail,   they fitted entire front joint set 1000 miles ago so they sure there is nothing there causing it.
The wobble wasnt there when old wheels were on. so must be a wheel or tyre problem

Took to Kwik fit to try a different set up and still same.  they said the other garages balance was 18grams out     who knows   not i.
still exactly same problem round 55 to 60, quite a wobble mainly on overrun, if you accelerate fast you dont notice it until you ease of to 60ish,

Have read a lot about wheel cracks,  could this be a cause but then need to start looking for a crack,  any tips on that ?

Thanks

General Discussion / any ideas on this welcome
« on: June 25, 2018, 08:57:21 PM »
Evening all
Wonder if anyone has an idea why the panama roof panels have developed this patch on over the years, im unsure if its a glass top or some kind of special Acrylic or similer, Ive searched the web high and low but find nothing.  its also called a Lamella roof if that helps anyone. it concertinas backwards as it opens.
It crossed my mind,  the very clever chaps on here will know. They know everything   :)) and im sure they will help even though its a little A class Merc i got for the daughter,,  sadly no BMW is suitable at the moment for her driving level and age, i did try her on the X5 insurance.   went from £230 to £3300  :))
If you run a fingernail you can feel the difference,  have tried, 2000 wet and dry, Farecla G3 and a polisher. but all its done is make it smoother but the damage wont even fade a little.
If you look very close its like a line of laquer peeling off is the only way i can describe it.

Many thanks for any advice.

General X5 Forum (E53) / Tyres on Mini
« on: May 27, 2018, 10:41:29 PM »
Evening all
Hope in right place.
Bought daughter a Mini clubman 2010 for her 21st birthday in few weeks,  hiding it at moment and going through it.
Came from a one owner with full history, however, checking tyres today and missed when i inspected before buying, althogh all good tread tyres i missed the obvious
3 tyres are Pirelli run flats,  but found on the front axel a standard tyre. Never had run flats so only now know they are marked run flat  etc etc
Done some web search and seem to find its not a good idea but mixed opinion if its actually legal.
Im going to get a run flat on asap.
have spoke to owner who said took and told garage to MOT it last Feb and put a tyre on,  the owner said they didnt know it was not a run flat and maybe the garage got muddled. !!!!!    i dont know if they lying or not  but would have expected the garage to know and not fit a run flat and non run flat on same axel.

Other question.   The tyres are a mix,
i have Pirelli P ZERO on the drivers side front and rear,  but a Pirelli Centuro P7 run flat on the rear axle passenger side and this chinese tart on the front.
should i have a  PZERO and P7 on same car and same axle , or should i replace the cheepo with another P7 and match them on the rear or front axel and the PZERO on other axel.  Or should i replace the cheepo and P7 with Pzero   so i have them all round
getting myself mixed up as well

Hi all

Does the lower front sports spolier you see on the facelift 4.4 4.8 where its colours coded  fit the 04 3.0d  which seems to have a plain different shape lower bumper,  just wondered if it clips or glues on for a more sporty look

thanks

General X5 Forum (E53) / Chrome mirror caps

Suppose these are like Marmite,
but  i like em, these are the only ones in Stainless,  good advert on Ebay.

However,  if you do fancy them, although listed for the 1999 to 2006, they do not fit the facelift model.
The seller tried to tell me it was the paint thickness !!! there is about a 8 mm gap as you try to push it on, it then starts eating into the paint.
Seller has refunded and very sorry. I thought they were all the same, appears not,  i looked on real oem and a different part number is listed for the facelift.

Look at this
A seller trying to get nearly £18 grand for an 06 E53    seems a bit mad  :nonono:
Low miles and very nice but who would pay that.

Buy and sell / Ctek battery sense & comfort lead
« on: April 09, 2018, 05:06:26 PM »
Hi all
Selling a ctek battery Bluetooth sense on here before Ebay, also a comfort connector I mounted on a plate in the X5 engine bay, there is a small bracket on the car with a threaded hole in it. simply connect your Ctek charger into it.
The charge lead and battery sense simply connect onto the charge points in the engine bay.
I had to remove it as I’ve bought a high amp 25a charger that is too big for the lead which is rated at 10a for the rest of the Ctek range.
Battery sense monitors the condition and sends reading via bluetooth.
Battery sense is only couple month old and as new £35. delivered.  These are £48 new .
Comfort lead £15 delivered, £21 new

General X5 Forum (E53) / Battery charger rates
« on: April 08, 2018, 09:22:58 PM »
Evening all

The Ctek do a large one xs 25000 25 amp ,  i wonder if this is ok to charge me little use battery every 10 days or so, not much info online i can find about the rate is charges,   if it senses the battery is say 50%  would it top up slowly and cause no problem or does it bang the 25a in whatever,

it does seem like the smaller ones that it goes onto a lower rate when charged up.
Just had chance to buy one from a friend,  seemed a better idea to charge it in a day or less rather than the 2 days my mxs 5 takes as im a road parker and have no driveway.
Also of course if it was a fully flat battery it states it charges it up in around 5 hours.
Just wondered if the Ctek technology would protect the battery better than a cheap and cheerful high amp one that just blasted it in till full.

Thanks

General X5 Forum (E53) / Meter reading help
« on: April 06, 2018, 01:55:43 PM »
Hi all

Trying to still find the slow drain, decent weather so at it all day yesterday.

Im stuck with my multimeterm after reading the excellent post from X5 Sport on how to trace i connected up withe the meter acting as the earth return,
i set the meter to DCA and on the 20a setting.
When with door open and the system still awake it reads 0.15,   after the 16 mins it goes to 0.06
i was pulling fuses to see if the figure changed but nothing did. few times i woke the system by fuse pulling and the dvd in the boot spun up and the reading went to 2.35 for few mins then slowy dropped eventually back to sleep at 0.06.
The reading shown on the photo 4.40 that was with some circuits activated,   so does that read as  4.4 amps ?
if that is 60ma  then that seems a good overnight draw and normal ish, this has only happened since the cold weather in November,  been fine from when battery was new in March 2017   95 amp Bosch S4

Can someone tell me how to read this. is 0.15 equal to 150ma  and 0.06 equal to 60ma ? or 6a ,  4.40 equals 4.4 amps
had battery load tested at garage and he said it was fine but still get small daily drain that would flatten car after around 10 to 14 days if not used.
Thankyou
