« on: August 06, 2013, 06:49:42 PM »
Just saw the iPhone app was update today. Looks like some interesting developments ahead (for new cars only I expect!):

General X5 Forum (E70) / Oil Service cost
« on: July 04, 2013, 12:31:58 PM »
I just booked my E70 40d in to the local BMW dealer and the cost is £345.58. Does anyone know what this service entails above and beyond changing the oil and a quick wash/hoover?

Has anyone paid less from a main dealer?

The lounge / MoneyWeek article

Pretty scary viewing but also believable given with all this talk of austerity, we're only trying to reduce the rate of borrowing and not the actual deficit itself.

The lounge / Live Bike Road Racing
« on: May 16, 2013, 08:12:23 PM »
For any fans of real road racing, the BBC Northern Ireland Sport website is doing live streaming tonight and Saturday.

Highlights are on BBC1 NI on Friday, Sunday and Monday night (channel 953 on Sky I believe).

Only a few weeks till the TT. Anyone going / been before? Looking at going next year.

General Discussion / Fake BMW parts on Fake Britain
« on: May 07, 2013, 09:38:28 AM »
Just turned the TV on and BBC1's Fake Britain was doing a piece on fake BMW parts.  Not sure if it was a repeat but worth a view if you're considering buying wheels or brake disks.  Unsurprisingly they're not made to the same standards and fail badly when tested.

It looked like the wheel they tested for a kerb strike was a 333M. Instead of denting the alloy, the rim sheered off.

General Discussion / New F15 X5 dash photos
« on: May 02, 2013, 07:51:43 AM »
Just came across these photos. I'm not a fan of the trend to having the screen coming out the top of the dash. Looks a bit cheap to me :-(

General Discussion / iPhone 5 Cradle
« on: April 12, 2013, 06:15:26 PM »
I still have an iPhone 4 but thinking about an upgrade once the 5S or 6 comes out.  Rumours are that it could be in a few months.

Prompted me to have a look at whether BMW have released an updated cradle and it appears they have but are charging €399!  I purchased the iPhone 4 cradle when I bought the car but I'm sure it was "only" £150'ish.

General X5 Forum (E70) / Drivers Profiles
« on: March 24, 2013, 08:03:48 PM »
I wanted to upload the drivers profile on my wife's X1 but couldn't find the option. Just had a look on my X5 and the option is also missing.

It may be that for some reason the option isn't visible on UK models but the connected drive website doesn't confirm.

Does anyone have the Profiles menu under Settings on any UK X?

Thanks

Steve

The lounge / Frenchman stuck at 125mph
« on: February 16, 2013, 03:31:22 PM »
Just read the article on Sky News. Apparently he couldn't stop and drove for 150 miles across the Belgium border before running out of fuel.

Am I missing something here but surely putting the car into neutral or pushing the clutch would enable you to stop or slow down enough to turn off the ignition or use the handbrake?

General Discussion / New build issue
« on: January 09, 2013, 02:28:20 PM »
Has anyone had any experience of having a new car delivered where some options were missed during manufacture?

Car was delivered in Sep 11 but only just picked up things are not right. Dealer confirmed issue was with the factory not the order. Also confirmed its not something that can be retrofitted (or at least that's what BMW's stance is).

General X5 Forum (E70) / Real MPG figures for my E70 40d
« on: November 16, 2012, 07:56:55 PM »
I was a bit early for an appointment today so thought I'd see what mpg I could do by putting the active cruise control on at 60mph and staying in the left lane. Not bad result as you can see below - and it was pretty relaxing too! Heavy foot on the way back pegged it to below 21mpg :(

General X1 Forum (E84) / X1 2012
« on: June 13, 2012, 07:17:05 PM »
Has anyone found any details on the updated X1? My wife is about to purchase and apart from a basic options sheet, there's no sign of a brochure anytime soon.

How-To / Internet - Option 614
« on: September 21, 2011, 05:58:56 AM »
I've been trying to enable tethering with my iPhone without any luck.  It seems that the browser uses the internal SIM by default which can only be using GPRS as it is painfully slow.  It actually renders this option completely useless e.g. it takes over a minute to load the google page!

I have purchased the correct iPhone 4 dock, downloaded the BMW Connected app and paired the phone via Bluetooth and enabled the personal hotspot on the phone itself but it still seems to be using the cars SIM and not the 3G on the iPhone.

Has anyone here managed to get it to work?

Newbies section / E70 40d ordered. Now the long wait...
« on: June 04, 2011, 06:01:49 PM »
Reposting - doesn't look like my post via ipad / tapatalk went through?

Great forum and some of the posts proved valuable in my model and options selection, particularly the posts on the M Sport paint chipping issue with the 20" wheels - in the end I went for the 20" wheels as i don't stray off the main roads too often and didn't find the ride that harsh.

Just got 89 days to wait now!  Trying not to count them...

I will be selling my 2007 Touareg in the next month or so and was planning to go through webuyanycar.com.  I got a quote from them round about February time and then again about a week ago but the valuation had dropped by about £7k!  Has anyone else seen this kind of drop in such a short time frame?
