X-drive comes with the facelift model in 2004 I think, I also thought I’d read in here if people discussing transmission problems on pre-facelift due to cheap tyres, maybe I didn’t need to get posh ones but hopefully they’ll last a while!

What wheels are you running with, is it a staggered set up is also a good point, it seems the suggestion about ruining transmission parts seems to relate more to the staggered set up, maybe kkx5 could correct me if I’m wrong there.
I thought long and hard when I got the 4.6is for 3k whether sticking £800 quids worth of rubber on it given the value seemed excessive but on balance the old star rated Michelin Diamaris had done over 35,000 miles and weren’t worn out, just cracked to hell with age. I have a square set up on 275’s so it seems to be quite easy on the tyre wear.

My main comparisons whilst thinking about premium tyres were my old A6 Quattro on which the Pirelli’s lasted ages longer than the cheap junk I put on one year, and the last two 4WD lease cars that have had Hankooks on (no choice in that decision) - over the past 6 years I’ve replaced more Hankooks than in the rest of my life, they rarely do more than 20k and seem to puncture if you run over a cotton bud😝

Buy cheap buy twice as often maybe?

When mine went none of the heater controls functioned, and the fan still blew at a fairly high rate of knots even with the key out, eventually lost all lights until the battery was completely flat by the time I managed to get the FSR out.
Changed and all back to normal, luckily I had a brand new battery ready to go in. Replacement FSR from BMW had a lot more prongs on it and was about £70, eBay also have cheaper ones of course.

Just thought I’d post this up for anyone else searching with a problem in the future.

Although the Dynavin N7 is advertised as working and integrating with DSP, it’s not quite as straight forward as it first appears.
If you’ve got the DSP amp installed in the right cubby hole in your boot, check if you’ve got one sub-woofer or two. If you’ve got two you’ve got the premium sound system and once you’ve spent hours pulling your car apart and fitting it all you’ll discover you’ve got no sound.

On the Dynavin head unit go to the telephone screen as if you were about to make a call, enter *123456# and press the green telephone button as if you were going to ring someone, this takes you to the hidden menu.
Press the words “car type” and change it from E53 to E46, then click ok to restart the Dynavin, sound may or may not issue forth.
If you still have no sound, go to the “sound” option on the main screens and ✅ the box that says “OE DSP amp”, you should then have sound.

Then you just need to get the balance right between the DSP output and the Dynavin output to avoid distortion and give you gradual volume control.

Alternatively, if you’re close enough, pay them to fit it!😝

Discussed this briefly before, I think it was Henry that did it but I can’t find the info again, I’m trying to finish my dynavin install and was going to move the NAV unit to the boot at the same time, anyone who’s done it - have you:

1. Managed to move the existing wires out of the loom and pull them back through to the boot
2. Chopped the plugs off and extend the wires yourself with new cable into the boot

I thought someone said they used the existing cable but I can’t see how to get at it

Is there somewhere in the boot that has a live that is switched with the ignition? All the fuses seem to be live all the time, I thought I could use the phone fuse but it’s live even with the ignition off, does the car going to sleep make any difference to any of those fuses?
I forgot to check but the 12v sockets are always live aren’t they?

These are the part numbers that I ordered when I took mine off, not sure what but you’re after but if you put the part number in eBay they normally come up with a picture. I just get mine from BMW now, I think every clip I’ve ever ordered from eBay has been crap! Have you looked on RealOEM, it’s a good place to find those odds and sods

I think on the pre facelift all the rear sensors are connected via one plug in loom, seems unlikely all four sensors would have failed, have you found where the rear loom plugs in, it’s only been a few weeks since I was messing with mine but I’m sure I’m not making this up! I think it was in the offside rear corner on mine

If you whip out fuse 44 (check the number - that’s from memory!) you can have the ignition on etc and use the electric switches on the seat without getting an airbag warning light problem
