Must admit it does feel a bit flimsy.
I might give it a try as i think the stick just pull's out i think that is how anybody know for certain ???.
Could take a pic while it's fitted and working to put on that auction site we all know.

Yes...put it in the Neutral position, hold the button in and pull straight up...beware people have lost teeth and have had nice black eyes,so make sure you face is not in the way!

I had an e53 3.0d for 8 years with only the turbo going, apart from that just service parts brakes etc....I trusted that car to the end of the earth...sold it to my friend and he has had no issues...I now have an e71 X6 35d....do I trust that??...NO!...not yet...dont think it will come any where near the e53's reliability...saying that its all down to servicing......trouble is you dont know how its been serviced prior to you owing it...hence the turbo went...I always service mine myself every 8000miles...all filters etc, thing is now there are to many sensors etc. that fail..basically they are now to complicated...I run a sprinter van for work so example:

My sprinters

2002 sprinter 4 sensors

2008 sprinter 9 sensors

2011 sprinter 13 sensors

You only need one to fail and its an avalanche.

My new 220xD Gran Tourer dipstick says low oil but the iDrive says it’s absolutely fine!  Which do I believe?  The handbook says the iDrive!  I prefer the dipstick.

Same as myself...old school ;)...but no damn dipstick for the auto fluid, that annoys me...Ive been to the ZF factory in Dortmund for a box service and the Lexus boxes have an auto fluid dipstick and BMW dont!!!WHY???

Fixed. Easy. The little cable had snapped at one end. I even had four bottles of San Miguel whilst doing it. That means it took 1 hour...

 :)) :))

I did mine myself and did the swirl flaps whilst I had the inlet manifold off, depends on how good you are on the spanners.
Also if you shear off any of the glowplugs 😬😬😬😬
Used a full tin of penetrating fluid over a couple of hours before I dare try to get mine out.
Glow plug relay is a mare to get at.
I'd wished I'd had someone else do it by the time I was halfway through the job😀
Glowplug relays are about £65 off EBay, ( same make as OEM ) glowplugs are around £15 each

Know what you about the relay...total job took me 4 1/2hrs (inc swirl flaps)....just so BM could save 50 pence worth of wire..... >:(
