If you have a second key try it as the car is about the right sort of age to be a dead key

I'm contemplating getting a H pipe instead of the fat box in the centre of the exhaust- doesn't it have an X pipe inside it anyway?
I want a deeper V8 burble like our L320.
An X pipe gives more power in high revs but less torque in low revs whereas a H pipe is opposite. Allegedly.

Not sure I understand the question. You say “across the e70 range”, but also say you’re looking at x5ms.

The e70 x5m on any age will be £555 to tax. I think all the other petrols will be £540 - £555. Some diesels may fall into the £300ish bracket.

Only had the car 5 months when I bought it the idrive said rears need replacing in 32000 and fronts 4500. I've done nearly 10000 miles in car , the fronts are saying 3500 miles and the rears need changing in 450 miles🤔

Had a quote from BMW for £320 to replace the rears.

So two points, firstly why have the rears worn so quickly? And secondly I was thinking about doing the rears myself. As any used a good aftermarket set of pads?

Cheers.

When we had our x3 it would not start because we had a faulty key.  The car would not read the imobolizer transponder from the key.  Sometimes it would start first time,  next time you went into the car you had to try the key about 50 times.  Bought a new key from BMW and the problem was solved.
I have no idea if this could be the same with the e70.
But it's something to consider.

Thanks Graeme, that’s a great post.

I had an E61 530D so it sounds like many of the same faults. The panoramic roof was fixed with a Dremmel :)

It’s going to be a few months and as I have my F11 for work, I’m in no hurry to buy. I’ll keep saving until I find the one.

Thanks again

General X5 Forum (E70) / Re: Anyone changed comfort access door handle?
« Last post by Horizon on August 16, 2018, 07:41:12 PM »
Worked this one out for myself on discovering the exterior handle was hot to touch.  :o

Removed the handle and disconnected the wires to temporarily solve the problem.

Anyone know the approximate cost I could expect to pay for a new 'Comfort Access' handle?
Go on real OEM BMW and type in the last 7 digits of your VIN, this gives your cars specific parts list, search out the
Part needed, email  otswold BMW, say your a forum member and they will quote you the part at a discounted price
( just make sure you are seated before you open the reply email 😬
