Suspension Rebuild Advice

I would expect to get all HD stuff, it is after all the bushes that are HD and they should all be as advertised. After all you bought hd so you don’t have to visit that area for a long time. That was my expectation too but the response from the seller was...."This is a Meyle HD kit and all the...

Suspension Rebuild Advice

Did my front bits and bobs with one of the Meyle HD kits from B&B components in Maidstone http://bandbcomponents.co.uk/page/meyle_hd.html. Went with Meyle HD as it’s supposed to have a 4 year warranty, what the odds of that being any use are I don’t know! Holy thread resurrection Batman! Apolog...

Re: X5 E70 tailgate lock water leak

Hi. I've got exactly the same problem too now. Did anyone ever trace the exact cause...... it's really annoying when the boot lock starts dripping, especially when it ends up down the neck of your shirt because there's often a little delay before it start peeing out! Will check the light seals first...

Re: E70 quality enhancement front driveshaft ‘recall’ 2012-2014

At the moment I'm thanking my lucky stars I've gotten away lightly, but as soon as I'm mobile again my local BMW dealership will be getting a visit. I intend to plonk my greasy full BMW main dealer service history turd of a no QE required driveshaft (both peices) on the service managers ever so shi...

Re: E70 quality enhancement front driveshaft ‘recall’ 2012-2014

When I went to collect my car, the video I took of my prop UJ was shown to Barons' (nearly) master tech and the feedback was that all the movement seen is in the splines but there's none in the UJ itself. I'm still not entirely convinced that's true or even a good thing so new parts with updated par...

Re: E70 quality enhancement front driveshaft ‘recall’ 2012-2014

When they didn’t change mine under the previous quality enhancement check, I bought the correct part and fitted it. The part was extortionate in the UK when I looked but is available from a BMW dealer in the USA for £118 delivered and import duties paid. See here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-OEM...

Re: E70 quality enhancement front driveshaft ‘recall’ 2012-2014

Followed up with a phone conversation with Barons (Elms) service manager.  Very helpful and they've agreed to inspect the shaft (this time) for free and if necessary put it to BMW UK for a goodwill replacement.  I can't see BMW UK refusing the request as we've seen the scope of goodwill they're put...

Re: E70 quality enhancement front driveshaft ‘recall’ 2012-2014

To add a few images.... here's the part number i didn't want to see... https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4909/43971125550_3edd311241_n.jpg dated 2010 and i suspect that white marking is indication that QE was carried out in 2014 https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4822/45738259432_d8678a0eb3_n.jpg This is a...

Re: E70 quality enhancement front driveshaft ‘recall’ 2012-2014
What used to be Elms seems to have gone downhill since the renaming then!
Can't write them off just yet based on initial lack of diligence.  Let's see how I get on talking to them further tomorrow..  I'm sure there's an element of basic training from HQ to never ...

Re: E70 quality enhancement front driveshaft ‘recall’ 2012-2014

So glad I found this sticky.  I was coming back to xdrivers as a long time member to eulogise my e53 4.4 which I've run for 10 years 100+k miles without serious issue.  I was recently tempted to upgrade to a late 2010 40d Msport in space grey with all the goodies and although it's covered 74k it is ...

Re: Buying my first X5 need help

I have early e46 and 2004 x5. X5 steering much heavier and better feel in my opinion. In the process of swapping a later club sport rack into the e46 to improve things.

Re: Anybody changed the steering wheel angle sensor on a 4.6?

Just adding this in case it's relevant... have no experience with the angle sensor on my x5  but i do remember having a code along the lines of "steering angle sensor implausible" on my e46 after some alignment work was done.  I was able to re-calibrate the sensor with BMW scanner 1.4.0 an...
