X3 3.0 Backfiring and missfiring

Hi All, Hoping someone can give me some guidance. I've got a 2004 (54) X3 3.0 Sport, Auto, been a great car but has suddenly developed a fault. Been parked for a couple of weeks, went to start it and wouldn't stay running, it went to 1k rpm then dropped almost instantly. Tried again but this time ga...

Re: Not The Usual PDC Problem!

....Just wanted to close this off.  I've resolved the issue... took a year!!!!  :)) The wrong sensors were in the bumper.  Phoned BMW and got the correct part number, compared the part number to the ones that were in the rear bumper and it was completely different.  Ordered the correct ones and gues...

Re: Not The Usual PDC Problem!

There's one that's local to the PDC ECU which I have removed and checked, it was clean, same earth feeds 4x4  ECU which is working. Might not be the only one for the PDC setup but that's the only one I can see at the minute.

Happy Christmas to all by the way  :xmaswink:

Re: Not The Usual PDC Problem!

I ordered one from ebay, says it's a '1-touch' install.... yeh right!  Had hell trying to get it working!  But managed to get it working in the end.

Here's a video showing what it's doing with INPA.  Hopefully someone can help!

Re: Not The Usual PDC Problem!

I think that sounds like a better idea, I'll download and install. Have never used it before but hopefully should be straightforward enough to read the errors. I've got autoenginuity which I use to diagnose engine faults, not sure if the OBD connector for that will be recognised by INPA or if INPA w...

Re: Not The Usual PDC Problem!

It's the rears that are reacting to the engine load, the front seem to be perfectly fine and work as they should do.

Such a very odd problem!

Re: Not The Usual PDC Problem!

I guess it's a possibility even though I have replaced all of the rears for new ones but I noticed something else yesterday... If there is a load on the engine while the PDC is active, the beep comes from the rear (alone).  For example, engine idling, car is in park, switch the PDC on and then press...

Re: E83 Rear Wiper Issues

I've not had this problem with mine but you should see 12v going to the motor with the rear wiper switch on. Put the negative lead of the multimeter to a ground point (make sure it's a ground point mind) and probe one of the three wires.  If you see 12v at any one of the three wires, switch the rear...

Re: Not The Usual PDC Problem!

**UPDATE** the replacement PDC unit/module arrived today, plugged it in but it appears the same problem is happening.  Having said that, the car was parked closer to some objects so it's possible they were picking up on those.  I'll be using the car tomorrow so I'll test it out then and report back....

Re: Not The Usual PDC Problem!

Hey!

We're still diagnosing. The suggestion to unplug the PDC sensors to see if it's the PDC ECU didn't work as the PDC ECU goes into fault if you unplug any of the sensors.

I have ordered a s/hand PDC ECU which should be here any day now. Will post the results once I've fitted it.

Re: Not The Usual PDC Problem!

Sorry chaps, I should have posted some pictures of the ol' beast up.  It was the R32 GTR, I don't have the car any more (Skyline) but she was a beast!  Got lots of pictures somewhere, I'll have to dig them out. http://i59.tinypic.com/2a77x48.jpg Thanks for the hints Sanj, they sound like a logi...

Not The Usual PDC Problem!

Hi all  :) Have just bought a 2004 X3 3.0i Sport Auto, great car, very happy with it bar one or two things.  The thing that's bugging me at the moment is the PDC/Parking Distance Sensor system. When I bought the car, it wasn't working at all.  One long beep and PDC light flashing. Found the faulty s...
