Re: ticking noise from engine

I think it's probably a dicky lifter - although it's always worth checking chain guides especially at the mileage you're on.

In any case should you decide to take it apart to change the lifter you may aswell do the guides whilst you're in there.

BMW E53 X5 4.6is 20" Alloys (Style 87) Genuine Staggered Set

As per title Good overall condition although would probably benefit from a refurb which I can arrange for an extra £200 which would include stripping, powdercoating and lacquering a colour of your choice to a very high quality. You would need to pay for the wheels and the refurbishment in advance th...

Re: E53 rear wheel spacers

I'd stick to 10mm and above, that way you can run proper hubcentric ones. You won't find hubcentric ones under 10mm.

Re: A couple of problems to start the day roling.

Rocker cover gaskets tend to leak, although if you haven't noticed any oily vapours or smells coming from that side of the engine then chances are it's not this as usually the oil burns off on the manifold and you can see it. You've also got all the oil filter housing and associated lines on that si...

Re: map sensor

Hi Andy You do not have MAP sensor however you do have a MAF sensor. You find it here - item 1 in the below diagram https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=FB52-EUR-05-2005-E53-BMW-X5_44i&diagId=13_1033 Simply unplug it and try using the car without it plugged in - if it improves the situa...

Re: Transmission Failsafe

That will be your transmission position switch at fault then.  Around £250 brand new from BMW. I've recently replaced mine with a used one off an L322 4.4i M62 Range Rover (£65) as it was doing the same thing and eventually came up with the corresponding code stored on the transmission ECU.

If you can push to it get an AGM battery - especially if you car isn't used very often. One of the best things I've bought for mine.

Re: 4.6is Chain Guide Rebuild Time

Quick update before I head back down to the garage to carry on with the X5. Blanked off the secondary air system yesterday which meant the exhaust blow was removed. It was at that point I realised it wasn't running right - lumpy and throttle not as responsive as I remembered it was....even though th...

Re: 4.6is Chain Guide Rebuild Time

I'll be honest I'm not - although I am thorough when it comes to that kind of  thing, as in I know which ones I've done and not done. Besides....there would be about 5 sets of lines the amount of times I've had things off and on!!
