Re: Auto to manual shift

Thanks, it does select all 6 gears correctly and I have just finished a transmission service and it all looks good so I figure it is OK. I just didn't want to start adjusting something that was OK.

Auto to manual shift

When I push the gear selector lever sideways so as to shift manually the gear changes to 5th if it is in 6th but not to 4th if 5th is running is this normal, if anything can be considered normal for a BMW. I haven't tried to adjust anything yet.

Re: Battery life How long to discharge

Thanks for the replies I didn't want to be chasing what was perhaps a nonexistent problem. I am well versed on checking for drain etc so it seems that 10 days is somewhat short of what I can expect from a top notch battery. I will keep an eye on it for a while as it's only had short runs with the lo...

Battery life How long to discharge

I have been having problems with the battery discharging if the car is left without being run for any more than about 10 days. I don't think the battery is very old and from what I could see was almost new 2 years ago. My 740iL will sit for a month without significant discharge but this heap 01/2004...

Re: Battery disharges

Check the charging voltage, it should be be 14.2 volt at 2000rpm +- 0.1volts If low then suspect the charging system and if high it is worth checking for parasitic drain.
If you are doing short journeys then maybe a trickle charger is needed.

Re: Keys will not program to lock/unlock

I have had a look through those wiring diagrams (they are the same in the Bentleys manual) but it is difficult to get any really meaningful info other than what wire goes where. It is difficult to get info on the BUS system and what interacts with what. BMW treats it like a state secret. With the bi...

Re: Keys will not program to lock/unlock

I have found part of the problem and that was the ignition switch not contacting in the start position so now one key works all the time and the other not at all so out with the AK90 and see if a reprogram will work there. The crook ignition switch was a real teaser as the keys would sometimes work ...

Re: Keys will not program to lock/unlock

it has really done it this time, trans and engine failsafe on the MID and no start. I connected my carsoft thing and it said no signal from DME and same for transmission module. BIG help no codes about as helpful as a haynes manual. I bought some software from a crowd in UK some time ago and decided...

Re: Keys will not program to lock/unlock

Well I finally got to having a look at the FZV unit and found nothing visible like dry solder joints and now the car wont start because the chip in the key is not being recognized. I presume that it is something to do with the relationship with the EWS
I'm gonna burn this box of crap soon :fuelfire:

Re: Head unit replacement and keep the OBC

Oh I didn't think of that Alan, I was thinking along the lines of having it visible on the dash but it's not like it get used a lot. So now I will have to get one anybody got one to sell. Thanks Dave I was looking at the Dynavin but they are around $1295 plus more for the DAB and TV bits. The HIZPO ...

Head unit replacement and keep the OBC

Some knuckle head put a pioneer head unit in this E53 and what a shocking job (wires stripped and twisted then shoved into the old connectors and twisted together and not even soldered) a real botch of a job. I would like to have the MID working again but want an up to date GPS and Pioneer don't do ...
