Re: Gearbox worry?

That sounds like it, worse when warmed up usually. If you can get someone to read the software for the gearbox there may well be faults registered, clear these and it will probably improve. Lots of debate on here and other sites regarding oil changes for the gearbox, it's got to be done correctly i...

Re: Gearbox worry?

What exactly is the lurch you lot refer to? Ours jerks when coming to a stop sometimes, I think its putting itself into first before were starionary. Is that it? If so I just thought it was a niggle to be honest as the gearbox seems to work fine other than this jerk every now and then but is it some...

Re: 6x glow plug error

Ended up having to have a new starter motor on it so got the garage to do the glow plugs and glow plug module at the same time. Its starts fine on a morning no with no white smoke and runs smoothly from the off. Oddly, I thought I would reset the computer this morning and somehow managed 41.5mpg ave...

Exactly mate! I'm just glad the garage persisted with it a bit longer rather than handing it me back and telling me there is nothing wrong with it!

Re: E53 3.0d wont crank.

All I can think of is the starter solenoid is on the way out and not pulling in the starter every time ,most other things would show a code. Luckily it wouldn't start this morning while it was there and they've diagnosed it as the starter so it sounds like you are correct. Should hopefully have it ...

Re: E53 3.0d wont crank.

Well as luck would have it it was dead again this morning. Other half went out and waited with it to get recovered and it started. It's now at the specialist who cant find whats wrong. Doesn't think it's the starter or battery related so he said hell keep trying until it doesn't start this week and ...

Re: E53 3.0d wont crank.

Whilst your specialist is having a look, get them just to check the starter current. If it’s over 180A it might be a sign of starter failure. It’s a known issue (some can try to draw more than 900A!), but won’t stop it cranking unless it drew more than the battery can supply, I could get two starts...

Re: E53 3.0d wont crank.

When running, did you check the charge voltage? It could be alternator on its way out. Otherwise my suggestion would be that the battery is needing replacement as it isn't holding charge... Turks. Yes I did mate. Just over 14v when running. Also checked the voltage drop and it was over 10v when cra...

Re: E53 3.0d wont crank.

Cheers. Started fine this morning I put it down to a blip. We've gone out in it to a wedding fayre and now it wont start to let us leave so I'm currently waiting to be recovered. It's not cranking, doesn't matter which key I use or if its in neutral or park. To top it off the boot switch has stopped...

E53 3.0d wont crank.

Long story short. E53 3.0 wouldn't start Thursday night. Started with a jump and drove fine for an hour. Checked battery voltage sat morning (car hadn't been driven since) battery was low. Started fine 3 times. Charged the battery with a trickle charge and wouldn't start. Replaced the battery with a...

Re: 220,000 mile 4.8

If it did get to negotiations I dont think the owner will go below £3800 in all honesty. From what else is about thats roughly £1200 - £1600 cheaper than the rest so almost a third off. Main concern if resale which i dont think it would so id have to break it and have no idea what they break for tb...

Re: E53 Coolant Replacement

Got it sorted but it was more of a ballache than first anticipated. Tried the drain plug on the radiator first which snapped off leaving the thread in. Then tried the lower rad hose which wouldn't budge. Ended up removing the thermostat which was easy enough which I think emptied most of the coolant...

Re: 220,000 mile 4.8

Would depend on price for me. I've never been shy of mileage but it has to be the right price IMO. Depends on the sort of mileage though if a lot of the mileage is motorway things might actually be less worn than a car with less miles which has been used for short trips around town. For it's price a...

Any use? https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/BMW-X5/13-WATER-Draining_Filling_Cooling_System/13-WATER-Draining_Filling_Cooling_System.htm Thanks mate. I've seen that but it's for a petrol x5 I think. To be honest I'm probably just going to leave the block drain alone and flush it out with dei...

E53 Coolant Replacement

Hi guys I've got to replace the thermostat on my E53 3.0d so think its a good idea to change coolant at the same time as it also doesn't have the correct BMW coolant in it at the moment. I've done it before on other BMW's so am OK with that and bleeding etc. However does anyone know where the drain ...
