EU tyre efficiency labelling

I fully accept that my X3 30d is never going to get near to the 40.8mpg that my 330d averaged over 55,000mls, although it's currently on 35.3 in the 600mls in my ownership which is none too shabby IMO.

Looking at my options for when time comes to renew tyres, I noticed that the Pirelli Cinturato P7 that are currently fitted are fuel efficiency rated at E. 

When I was planning on buying an X3, I read all the various info on * marked tyres and although my car is out of warranty and I won't be paying BMW prices for servicing I think I would like to stick to * marked tyres, just to be on the safe side.

Michelin do a * marked Primacy in 225/60x17 which is fuel efficiency rated at B.  So my question is;- does anyone have any real-world experience of noticeably improved fuel consumption with better rated tyres?  Or is this just another example of EU daftness?

Are you running the same size tyres on all 4 corners? Or are you running the staggered setup ?
As you have mentioned only one tyre size and 17" rims
If they are all the same size / profile you don't have to worry about * markings, just buy 4 identicle tyres.
That gives you much more options and cheaper
