Hello all.
I am a newbie from York, I have introduced myself on the newbie postings and been welcomed to the site, i am now here to be educated, I am considering buying an X5 but I know nothing about them, so whats better than ask the guys who know, so thats what I am doing, the X5 i am looking for is on the 05 plate, and I will also be towing my caravan with it, at the moment i tow with a Rover 75 estate, Diesel Auto, and I am looking for the same in the X5, my Rover is a wonderful car and she pulls the caravan fine, and returns 24 mpg, but when i am not towing I need something big enough to get my stage gear into, its a tight squeeze in the Rover and I dont want to ruin the headlining. so there you go, thats my story, Lifer told me that I should be looking in the E53 category, But I am now confused as I have seen E53 mentioned E70 and others and I have no idea what they mean, so I am a bit confused, plus there are other questions that i want to ask, like what is the MPG on the Diesel Auto, and what they are like as tow cars. any help would be much appreciated. my Rover has the M47 Engine in her, its a 2ltr Diesel that was 120 BHP but I have had it opened up (Mapped) to 160BHP. Thanks for any help you can give me, :? :? :?

E53 is a 1st Gen X5 made from 1999 - 2006
E70 is a 2nd Gen X5 made from 2006 to 2012
F15 is a 3rd Gen X5 made from 2013 to 2018
G01 is the current model.

If you want a 2005 30d (E53) then you have 218bhp to play with, a 6-sp Auto box (manuals are very rare). Engine series is the M57 in line 6, single turbo.

A lot is going to depend upon your available budget, and what you can keep in the Bank should the worst happen and you need repairs. These are Luxury Ladies with expensive tastes! Economy wise you will be in the same ball park as your Rover. 30mpg or better at light load on a motorway, dropping to low/mid twenties laden or towing.

All X5’s make good tow vehicles as the torque on tap is considerable at 500Nm.

If your budget can stretch to the E70 then it is a better car all round. You do need to watch the VED rates for 2005 onwards as the X5 was in the highest category for a while - later cars from 2007 (I think) onwards are lower tax as they are cleaner emissions wise.

2010 models are called the LCI and have more up to date toys and engines (N57) and up to three turbos (M50d).

Hi and welcome make sure when you view one check everything and we mean everything works ok.These beasts have many little faults (let’s face it all luxury cars do 😁).
Ask away on here I no a little but there’s guys on here with vastly more experience and you’ll always get an answer.
