Stage 1 alpha tune?

Post by Themoog2 » Wed Aug 19, 2020 9:35 pm

Anyone ever heard of the above?
I was browsing eBay and a Cayenne was advertised with having had the above, going from 340hp to 380hp. A bit of research led me to Celtic tuning in Newquay.
They say that the 4.4 286hp M62 can be tuned to 316hp..
30hp? Using standard components in the engine and within tolerance.
Now, I am aware of stainless headers / manifolds that de strangle the V8 and can release more power but only using software? I’m sceptical.
Thoughts..

Stage 1 remap requires a lot of work to the engine and lots of money, normally for track cars etc.....stick to a stage 2, that will give you plenty of what you need  .

No this company says ‘stage 1’. I don’t want it - I’m wondering how they can get 30hp more just on software. Having looked around it seems there are loads of remapping places that make that claim too.
I get it on a turbo motor but not N/A and if so, why didn’t bmw do it..

Depends on what engine and software the use....on my 330ci (petrol) I had an increase of 32bhp....tested on a roll road prior and after remap.....on my X6 (Diesel) gained 44bhp and now on my 640d (Diesel) F12 I have gained 47bhp and 720nm at the flywheel.....if I wanted stage 1 on my 640d it would have cost me around £5000 on an engine rebuild bt would have taken up the bhp to somewhere in the region of 480bhp....but I didnt need that much, friend of mine has had the rebuild an stage one on his Audi A5 and has 503bhp on it now.... :o

Jason @ BW Chiptune offers ECU remaps to the Forum members. That’s just software and boosts bhp without over stressing the torque (or gearbox damage can occur).. I thought he could ‘uplift’ by about 30bhp. He’s based in Uxbridge but will send out the remapper tool to people. Send him a PM. Member name is all one word or look him up in the member list.

Thats what I pay around....they will need a power supply for a voltage stabilizer....takes anywhere from 1 1/2 to 2hrs.

As Richard mentioned Jason is wroth getting in touch with and did my 4.8is many years ago. Been great for all these years with no adverse effects. On an NA engine generally you won't see huge gains as some will just increase fuelling way too much to get larger gains.

Marti - In general, stage1 is just a remap with maybe a single bolt on mod (exhaust, filter, etc). Usually stage 2 it's full bolt on and stage 3 being proper engine work - upgraded cams etc.

Raj - Yes your correct, I meant to say stage 2 on my 640d would cost ££££....talked to my friend with the Audi and he had the stage 2/3 which he had timing chain upgrades..lifters, turbo and a few other things he mentioned...he wanted full stage 3 but chap said clutch upgrade and brakes, but he didn't go for them as he'd spent enough, why you want 500bhp for on an everyday road car I dont know

Lol you can never have to much horsepower. The 3er is comfortably at 430bhp and the GTI at 320bhp but I do have a Meth kit for the 3er and maybe then hybrid turbo’s but yeah even now it’s plenty for just road use.
