Wheel Refurb

Post by Avtar » Sun Aug 29, 2010 10:38 am

OK, it's finally happended, the first kerbing of a wheel on the X5, my poor wife was so upset when she did it. So, does anybody know a good wheel refurb company that will cover West London?

Not sure if they cover West London but I've heard good reports about Lepsons - never used them myself though.
Cheers

Lepsons - arguaby meant to be the the best and supposedly do warranty work for Mercedes & Lexus.

Spit & polish, (basaed in Tunbridge Wells & used to do a pre book drop off am & collect pm service).

Pristine Wheels also have fair reputation.

Wicked wheels come to you though dont expect mircale finish.

You can get mixed results from d.i.y. efforts on plain silver painted rims, however, quality of the work may depend on the size/depth of the scuff &/or ability.

If someone still getting used to a cars dimensions maybe not worth rushing to sort unless unsightly.

For polished, diamond cut or obsure shades it pays to do research to ensure whoever is used is up to the job.

Further to last I would be tempted to PM Jason at B&W. He's in that area & may well know whose good & reasonable locally.

That said I note that IT Barbie's link is for a firm based in Ealing who specialise in work on both BMW's & alloy refurb work.

Used both Pristine Wheels and Wicked wheels, cant fault both. Although wicked was to paint a set of rims, and pristine was used on a refurb.

Another Vote for Diamond Styling in Sevenoaks.

They did a great job on the M5 wheels, finished in bentley silver ( dont like the shadowline finish and its durability is utterly crap ).

Regards

Impressive indeed. However, I am looking for someone that can do this hopefully with needing to have the car off the road.

If agenda is to get this done without being apart from your car you then you need to narrow things down :

i) Get your local "Wicked Wheels" franchise to attend your home or place of work & repair in situ. The vans have spray booth & mini oven therein, however, they dont powder coat or strip right back.

ii) I believe Wicked wheels used to provide an additional service whereby where when a full strip back is required they will supply another wheel & tyre, then take your wheel away, send it to Lepsons, & then return a few days later to refit. This service is likely to to come at a price to reflect the lack of your inconvenience, however, if you are simply too busy or just cant be bothered with looking into things & doing the legwork then this option may tick the box.

iii) Change to your spare then send by courier or personally deliver the rim of choice to Lepsons or other or other refurb shop of your choice. Check to see what requirements are re tyre removal prior to your dispatch, (i.e if you have to cause tyre removal or send the whole thing).

Personally I would want to be assured that any full repair to an isolated wheel wasn't more than required. If very minor I might prefer to have a very local damage repair done so as to protect the integrity of the undamaged part of the alloy. Speak to them by all means, but I wouldnt expect Wicked Wheels to totally respray to an exact match to the other untouched rims.
