Warranty Query

Post by Avtar » Wed Nov 03, 2010 8:49 am

Question, my front brakes will need to be done in the next 700 miles, am I right in understanding that I do not have to have them done by BMW as long as they are done by a VAT registered garage that uses BMW parts and that this would not affect my warranty in any way?

Correct on all counts there Avtar. As long as they use BMW OEM parts and are VAT registered as you state there are no warranty issues. However I would get a quote from the indi and see if a main dealer wishes to price match that quote.

I have to say that I am quite surprised that you need the brakes doing so soon after you picked this 'X' up. How many miles have you done since purchase?

Avtar, I have to say I would be well pi$$ed if I had to pay for a set of pads 3.5k after purchasing a car, even more so in your case with all that went on before  You can also bet your bottom dollar that the dealer will suggest that the discs be changed as well  I have to say that I would be on the phone to said dealer asking for them to change them FOC and asking why they were not done or at least advised during the AUC check before purchase!!!!

Pads and discs are not covered by warranty and so will not affect your warranty no matter what ones you use. I've been modifying for years and I've had plenty of warranty work done on modified cars with no issues. The only time they will reject a warranty claim is if a non standard part has been the cause of the problem.

No worries. Tbh, just change the pads yourself and save some cash. It's not to hard to do. Its a pity your not closer to Wolverhampton as I could have done them for you.

Spoke to the dealer on Saturday and they are going to look into the brakes issue and come back to me during the week.

Just had a call from BMW, the AUC policy apparently states that cover in this case is that it should be good for 4000 miles or 4 months, whichever is sooner and since it has been six months it does not cover, however, they are willing to do the parts and labour at their internal cost charge, waiting on what that will actually be in terms of an actual cost?
