For £300 you could get your car detailed by a reputable specialist. You could probably get full paint correction for that kind of money and it will be to a much higher standard than from the dealer. Check out the detailing forum on Pistonheads or detailingworld for more information. I did mine myself using Bilthamber autoclay with Bilhamber Autowax and a hand polish with Autoglym super resin polish in between. Basically a detail without the paint correction as I don't trust myself with a machine polisher. To do that, clean and treat the leather and clean the interior then clean glass and treat exterior plastics took the best part of two full days but it is easy to keep clean from then on.

Car or not having the Supaguard :poke: ;)

Supaguard IMO is only worth having on a brand new if at all. On a 2 and a bit year old car, a waste of money as Avtar and Dan stated. Good luck for Monday :driving: :D and nice spec by the way

Supaguard kits can be bought on ebay for a fraction of the cost you would pay at dealers albeit you have to also consider the cost the dealer charges for the application of the products too. Such products often a bit of a standing joke by some in the trade as they are regarded as an easy earner when owner pays to apply them.

I do see merits in having a good sealant to protect against bird droppings and other contaminants though I cant comment on that product as on the 2 new cars I have ever owned niether have been supaguarded so I cant compare the durability & protection agains my chosen wax.

Ultimately preperation is essential for good looking paint & clearcoat.

I have a random orbital polisher & have prior detailed & corrected my own car which is fianlly sealed with Collinite 915 wax.

That said mine is now overdue another correction, my best intentions hampeed by the weather & abscence of a useable garage, (due to having to use same for storage whilst between owned properties).

I've heard good things about collinite too and meant to mention the kits on ebay (not to suggest you get them but just to show how much the product costs). Claying is definitely worthwhile and the Bilt Hamber Autoclay comes highly recommended. It's inexpensive - a block will do at least four cars and the lubricant is water so easier and cheaper. http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/advanced_ ... 90&x=0&y=0

The wax I use is http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/autobalm.php

Yep completely agree with AW8. As margins are ever squeezed on new and used cars, dealers look at new "Add Ons" to add profit to the bottom line and incentivise sales staff accordingly by around £25+ per kit sold. The dealers valet team are often sub-contracted in and will give a set price per Supaguard around the £50 mark dependent on size of vehicle add the cost of the kit, lets say £25 and the dealer can see a nice £200 profit on the sale price of atleast £300!!!

As said before, no point what so ever buying this for a used car unless it has had full paintwork rectification and no dealer I have ever worked for as had anybody able of doing this or the time to do either!!!! By all means get it on a new car but beaware of the profit margin and haggle the price down.

It really still amazes me that the UK buying public are unable to do this, JC even wrote about in In-Gear (Sunday Times) @ the weekend. Do not pay the list price for anything, there is always a deal to be had, if you can't do it or feel uncomfortable, get someone to help you!!!

Agreed and always remember to negotiate extras such as accessories, options etc as it's easier (but only once you've hit the floor price) and one that's all too often forgotten is free servicing or a warranty extension (especially on used cars). And be aware of all the tricks they play such as 'I've already spoken to the manager and the most I can discount is...' or goes off to manager and argues and comes back, phone call about the car happens to come in whilst you're there etc etc etc
Thinking of buying E70 X5. Am looking at post 2008 model in view of low emissions and also better mpg. Am not able to decide which to go for. 3.0sd has abotu 3k atleast premium over hte 30d. it means it also has 50bhp more and no other difference, People who have tried both can u advice is 50bhp that much of a difference in 2.5tonne car.
I defo need below options
media package
thrid row seating
seat heating
if it comes with anything else its a bonus.

Look forward for some advice. cheers
BTW i'm based in UK
