Insurance for the E70 4.0d

Post by AdamsX5 » Sun Oct 07, 2018 1:43 pm

High I’m considering going for the 4.0d and just want to see what you guys are paying for insurance. Had some quotes and they differ quite a bit.
I’m 50 with 9 yrs NCD but with a few claims(2) in last 5 years.
Quotes coming out at £1300-1500.
Anyone pay reasonable premiums and who with?

Renewed in July, £450 with 10+ years NCD and £150 excess, SWMBO plus 1 named driver, 0 points (in case it matter). Tracker required and with a current subscription.  Directline and we have 3 cars (all BMWs) on with them.

I’m 58 and SWMBO is ‘mid-40’s’ - I get clobbered if I say exactly  :P

Not all insurers want a tracker, and it will also depend upon where you live.

Sheila’s Wheels last year wanted £900 for the same policy with an £850 excess, tracker also needed.

E70s were very high on the stolen car list last year and this may have forced the need for tracking systems.

I'm 57, no claims or points, £150 xs - loads of companies around the £350 mark. I'm actually with SAGA which was about £340 5 months ago.

Think it must be the claims as my F10 was only £800 as well.  I’ve not had a tracker fitted and if so will it reduce premium or do they insist that you do have it in. How much does one cost and what’s subscription for it ?

Mine was installed at build and was about £500 at the time.  £200 a year subscription.  Directline required a copy of the installation certificate and confirmation of the subscription status from the service provider.

In my case it is ‘no tracker, no cover’ but others may give you a discount - often less than having a tracker installed and current costs you  >:(

We have trackers on the other cars, but only the X6 had to have one.

I'm 74 and with Saga.  They adjust cost by mileage-  I pay £430 for 13-14000 miles pa for a 2008 3.0d SE. Where you live is also a factor - I live on Teesside. A couple of weeks ago  got a quote from Saga for a year old 4.0D sport that interested me - £680 - but I haven't bought it.  Difference in value is £35-40k and performance is just a little more exhuberant!!!!

I done another quote with Directline and it’s £1100 with protected NCD 9 years with 3 claims in 5 years. No tracker was asked about though.
I’m with Lv with one car and you can have both cars with max NCD with them but Directline doesn’t do this. However LV want 2k now on my F10. I didn’t bother asking them for e70. I have 9 NCD with Lv and want to transfer it to the e70 but it’s on a Yaris so will have to do change of vehicle first and then quote for the f10 with someone else.
So will have 2 x 9NCD on both cars with different insurers.

Out of interest, I insure the x year on year off with my wife so we both maintain max ncb. The m3 is on classic insurance so doesn’t require ncb.

Thanks Saga is for people over 50 so I just qualify. Saved me a bunch 939. Had been claim free for years then put daughter on policy and it’s been downhill ever since. She now has her own insurance and I’m a happy man.

Your a wise man ...why buy something you don’t really need. I would opt for a 3.0d any day but can’t find one with good spec until I saw a 4.0d which has everything I want. If it wasn’t for me claim history I would go for the 5.0d saw one for 21k but it got sold quick.
Used to pay £400 for my F10 in the good old days  never been less than £700 in recent times.

Wonder if it's where you live that means your X6 must have a tracker fitted. I have been getting quotes for 50d X5's and X6's and no insurance company mentions having a tracker fitted.

Do you know how much discount companies give for having a dash cam installed?

Postcode is always a ‘driver’ but given the value of the Gran Tourer is well over double that of the X6, I was surprised.

Of course it could be that nicking a ‘rabbit wagon’ has zero street cred..... :))
