Bonnet of E70 material?

Post by AdamsX5 » Tue Mar 19, 2019 4:26 pm

Just want to confirm what this is made of?
Got a pen which determines thickness of paint /lacquer
Now all metal sections of body give factory paint values.
However bonnet gives zero magnetic readings worse than paint job. It’s a bondo or filler reading zero.
It sounds like metal and feels like metal but pen reads zero. Rest of car gives top readings.. even an area where I suspect it had accident shows factory paint.

So either the bonnet has been changed to some plastic type or it’s a reinforced plastic /metal bonnet.
I was surprised that next to bonnet the whole wing is plastic. That’s was a bit weird.
Can anyone explain what’s going on?

I'd say yes it's aluminium and most bmw wings are plastic now at least they don't rust like they did not that long ago on e46's
