Front brake pads

Post by ssrfr03 » Sun Aug 11, 2019 7:38 pm

Anyone know how many miles I have left as the brake wire warning has just popped up ie about 1000 miles or 2000 if I am lucky ??

How long is a piece of string??

IMHO, if the light is on it's not a question of how long - it's time to get them changed. ..........Especially as the warning only relates to one pad per axle. Pads rarely wear totally evenly - you could already have one or more pads even more worn than the one with the sensor on.

As said above, if the light is on then they need doing sooner rather than later, and also as above the wear is uneven with inboard pads wearing faster (based upon all of our single piston caliper equipped BMWs). You might get 1,000 miles, or 50.

It’s a pretty easy change process and only takes about an hour or so including getting the car jacked up and the wheels off/on again. Pads are (last time I bought any) about £50 and the sensor about £10 from Carparts4less (ECP by another name) with one of their frequent mega discounts (or about £100 from BMW as a ‘valueline service kit’).

I use Pagid on all mine.

:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Best to look though the wheel and see what "meat" is left on them before it hits the backing pad but as said expect the inner pads you can't see to be much worse.

On a sort of related note, my rear pads have said they have about 1200 miles left...and have been saying that for about 6000 miles. :?
