Brake Disk Life - what should I expect?
Brake Disk Life - what should I expect?
Just had a call from my dealer to say that my brake disks need changing
The car has only just done 30k miles so I am a litle surprised
Is this the norm?
Cheers

I am on 72k on the first set of disks. I thought it was two pads changes to 1 disk set rule?

I know the pads need doing but I'm surprised at the disks
First pads going on now which I though was quite good

Re: Brake Disk Life - what should I expect?
I replaced the first set of pads at around the 48k mark, changed them for Axxis so I have had clean wheels ever since

Re: Brake Disk Life - what should I expect?
Thats pretty severe brake wear... I would be surprised if they really did need changing? I would expect the same as above really, two sets of pads to one set of discs. The only reason I could think of is that you wore your pads right down and this has damaged the discs but i'm pretty sure you arn't daft enough to do that given your history and knowledge with cars...
I would be asking them to show me the discs before I agreed to the work. I'd expect over 50-60k for discs depending on what driving you have been doing (motorway etc)
Turks.

I haven't checked the pads physically and relied on the I-drive some what but I'm changing them early according to that as I had another 1500 miles for the front pads and 2100 for the back
And I know it is chalk and cheese but the Lotus has done 13k miles of mainly track work and I'm still on the original disks

Front discs changed on my E53 3.0D at about 75k and rears just changed at about 85k.
Did them both myself and saved a bob or two
Graeme.

I'm sure that on a car as young as yours, all the wear sensors would be working fine meaning there should be plenty of wear left on the pads so no damage done to the discs.
Anyways, its now the 29th.. what did you decide to tell your dealer? I don't think I would have accepted that the brake discs need replacing after 30k.
Turks.
