BMW Dealers / Wheel Size

Post by NewX5 » Tue Nov 16, 2010 8:48 pm

Got a great call from dealer to say vehicle will now be ready Friday instead of the 30th Nov, so went along this evening to see vehicle. Anyway they had my vehicle locked in a storage area which they had no access too, only dealer principal apparently. To make things even worse I looked at a few other new vehicles and know I have made a mistake with the wheel size as I stuck with the 19 and did not get the optional 20, I have this really bad feeling that I am not going to like the size and should have selected the 20. This week seems to be costing me more and more money as I will certainly have to change wheels.

The car I ordered had exactly same spec as test driven other than sunroof which is not really my thing, needless to say all my excitement has gone for now.

NO! Don't that let that spoil what is a very rare event!

You have all the time in the world to change to 20's or even 21's and the luxury of looking for the right design. Be that OEM or replica. Lots out there.

Besides you have the better ride at the minute over the larger alloys and they will be cheaper should you need to replace them!

Take your time and get what you 'feel' is right, not just what looks right.

I like bigger alloys myself and sacrifice ride quality for it - that may not be your thing!

Pictures are mandatory - regardless!

Look on the bright side, the small 19s will be better over the winter and once the snow (hope we don't get as much this year) disappears you can get the 20s on it once the spring has sprung. I had 19s on during the mega snow that seemed to last forever at the beginning of the year, the dealer principle said that his on the 21s was like a 2 ton sledge :D

Just wanted the look of the vehicle I test drove and sure I was told they are standard M Sport ones but after looking at 4 unregistered new cars all M Sport they had 20s which I really liked. I have also decided to know get screens fitted in the headrest and struggling to find the dvd type without headrest and guest what no luck, what a week.

Don't worry about the 19" wheels at this stage, if at all. Just enjoy your new toy :D

You may well forget all about the wheels once you take delivery. :)

I had a discussion with my Dealer yesterday about winter wheels for my new X6, and was a little taken aback by the prices with at least £700 just being for the larger tyre size needed on my 20" compared to the 19" version.

It may seem like tough car times tough but in reality you are in a lucky position.

In contrast yesterday I bought & fitted a new stop/taill bulb & today wasted 2 hrs trying but failing to source a Yaris battery.

Thanks for all your words just that I placed order early August took 2 weeks to decide on spec and still got it wrong and now looks like will be costing me more money. I dont even think I have seen an X5 with 19s as all I have looked at recently seem to have 20s maybe it is just me but really hoping car does not look like an X3.

If you want to sell the 19s let me know, could use as a winter set.
And good luck for friday and enjoy dont let the 19s put you off, they can be changed any time, there was even a set of the new 20s on ebay a few weeks ago, so be patient and some thing will turn up.

I've just had my 19's winter tyres and alloys fitted, replacing my 20's. The drive is far superior (its amazing what an inch can do for pleasure) and I see no real issue with the look.

You'll love the car, and like everyone says, winter needs smaller tyres, save up till spring for the big boys
