Surprise Service!!

Post by X5Sport » Mon Oct 20, 2014 9:14 am

It seems the vaunted iDrive is not infallible!

I took the X6 in for its MOT this morning along with a brake fluid change which the car has been nagging about for a few weeks (reminder incorrectly set by the Dealer last time).  Nothing else showed on the Servicing menu in the system, however when I got to the Dealer they said it needs a 'Major Service' as well.

That was not recorded by the iDrive but was on the key memory!

So beware, you might have been expecting a simple fluid service only to find the car has been keeping secrets from you!!  It's like having an unfaithful partner..... :(

I'm assuming the E70 may play the same games as the systems are basically the same.

Interesting for sure. So what have they put it down to as the reason for it not displaying through the idrive?

Apparently the system only shows the most urgent service, but I did say the other three lines (covering engine and brakes) were all green with miles still to run.

Not the best of software designs!!

Totally agreed buddy. Not very good when you aren't expecting it and tbh sounds a bit of a copout.

I wish there was a way to put custom entries/reminders in such as tax disc expiry date.

That would be handy.  The MOT one is in there.  It comes up as 'Inspection' rather than 'Service'.

True, but much better on the iDrive ;)

I'm trying to think of other examples other than tax disc as well....I can't think of any at the moment though.

Ah, thats good. Do you know if the message just clears itself or if it has to be reset by BMW? Surely it shouldn't lock us into taking our car to BMW dealers for MoT's  :noexpression:

Got mine serviced about two months back and had the same, IDrive said brake fluid and oil change and then the dealer reads the key data and pulls me pants down service wise !!  :-[ Anyway, £650 notes later and it's done, thank god for the service pack which meant it was free  :)
