Buying an X6

Post by mrsfn » Thu Mar 19, 2015 4:29 pm

Hi there, new to this website and wanted to inquire regarding the x6 as i'm thinking to purchase an 10 plate 40d white one this weekend.

Basically what i'd like to know is running cost, is there any difference between 30d, 35d and 40d other then bhp and torque, do all x6 come with the built in media hard drive, what should i look for before buying etc .

Please please please help do not want to make any fundamental purchase errors

The 'media hard drive' is part of the CIC hard drive so no they don't all have it.  That came from April 2010 production (not registration) onwards...so should be standard on the 40d.  Further updates came with the Combox in mid-October 2010.  More updates in March 2011 so it depends up in exactly what functions you want.  Some only work with other options added too like professional navigation, USB ports, smartphone integration etc.

A check across the forum will answer all of your other questions. That's what the search facility is for.

Apart from the CIC iDrive the other change is the 8 speed box which came with the 40d and makes it the more efficient and best of the three models you list.  The 35d was replaced by the 40d.

Fuel costs you need to take at least 25% off the official figures.  Sub-30mpg is the norm.

Oh and :hi:  :)

Welcome to the forum

If you are buying from a main dealer then ask them to tell you what warranty work the car has come into the dealerships for. Hopefully not much, which would tell me that the car is not a lemon. Ask them before you hand over the money  ;)

Hi and welcome,

I had a X6 4.0d for just over two years and loved it.  Lots of torque to play with and depending on you normal driving style and where you drive, 30mpg is achievable.  It is a Marmite car so you will hear positives and negatives about it and it's styling.

Great car to own and drive, enjoy.
