Running boards pitted- warranty claim ?

Post by Mavster » Thu Mar 27, 2014 11:57 pm

Hello,

Has anyone had problems with running boards having unsightly black pitting marks on them while the car is still in warranty, and tried to claim on the BMW to have them replaced?

I am looking at an X6, and the sales guy sent me a video walkround on the car, and pointed out that this car like most other X5 and X6 cars that are fitted with running boards suffer from this problem of pitting..

Is it reasonable for me to ask him to have them cleaned or replaced prior to sale ? Or perhaps I can claim on warranty later ?

Cheers

Steve

I tried under warranty and was rejected. When I replaced the car I went for one with standards sides as I couldn't accept the tarnishing.

If you are buying then either get them replaced as part of the deal, knowing they will pit again in less than a year, or go for black painted sides.

Or spray the originals with plastidip to prevent oxidation the day you get them!!

I sent the dealer an email saying to replace or clean the pitting off and then reseal the aluminium running boards.

What do you have to say to get them repaired under warranty ?

Mine were stained. I told them I wanted them replaced.

They just replaced them.
