New Owner - Alpine White 35d

Post by imsag » Sat Jun 07, 2014 5:05 pm

Hi guys, I've recently purchased an X6 from BMW Colne. I am coming from a 2006 Range Rover Sport and a 2007 Q7 before that.

The car is a 2010 35d in Alpine White & Black Nevada. It's been colour coded by the supplying BMW dealership and has the 21" style 215 wheels in ferric grey. Also has Media/Dynamic packs & sunroof.

Here are some pics from the dealer website and some I took when I went to view it.

I've done a 2014 Map update and am planning a few bits for it such as

- Removing side steps (I've purchased the standard sills already)
- Removing roof rails
- Retrofit reverse cam
- Retrofit comfort seats (The sports seats are rubbish)
- Retrofit spare wheel
- A few lighting upgrades, maybe LED angels, LCI rears and so on
- Some 22's & a drop when the current rubber needs replacing

Thanks for reading! Sag  8)

very pretty!! think they have whited it out a tad though!! few more black accents would tie the black grills in a treat, arch mouldings for me would look better black.  Sounds like quite a lot of retrofits you are doing????

Cheers  :)

I quiet like the all white, I've been thinking about tinting the windows as this is the first car I've ever owned which doesn't have tints. Although saying that, it does have the 'Sun protection glass' which seems slightly greener than normal.

Yep, sounds like a lot of work but on the whole just small(ish) bits to get the car up to the spec I'm after.

Is BMW the best place to get parts from? I'm after the roof mouldings for when I remove the roof rails as the current ones have 4 holes in them. BMW want £127 each!  :o

Would also be grateful if anyone can give me some info on fitting the Comfort Seats.

I imagine the mounting points are the same so will bolt in directly but what about the electrics? Is it a simple plug & play or is it more complicated than that?

Want to get the seats ordered this week and booked in to the re-trimmers to be done in Tan/Cinnamon

Any help is much appreciated 8)

I'm confused.  Can you not order the seats in colour required for your interior? this sounds like a lot of money just for seats, i couldn't justify the mod personally, all depends, are your originals heated? full electric?

Have a look on Realoem to see what parts go with those seats.  At a guess they would be plug and play for power and airbag control, but there is a link into the car key memory system which may need coding so that it knows that option has now been fitted due to the extra motors and air compressor (not sure if that is also on the sport seats too)

Very expensive change as Comfort Seats were a costly option at build, so could be very scary as a retrofit.  £3k maybe?

Thanks for the feedback guys, my currents seats are the sports seats that come with the dynamic pack. Fully electric and heated.

I've never heard of RealOEM but a quick search shows it could be very useful.

With regards to the comfort seats, I won't be buying them new. I've found 2 sets from breakers between £400-700. The leather obviously needs some attention but I would have them fully re-trimmed in a different colour. Then try and sell my current interior on eBay.

I had an E60 a few years ago and I forgot how uncomfortable the sports seats are. I'm surprised BMW put them in a 'premium' vehicle. The X6 I looked at before buying mine had comfort seats and they are a massive improvement.

Thanks again!

Cheers. They are lovely indeed but all 4 tyres are on their way out so unsure whether to replace the rubber or take the jump to 22's. My man maths reckons the costs involved would be the same either way.
