Post by x6edge » Tue Jun 10, 2014 4:49 pm

Hi does anyone have any info on the above. As I understand it, it is available from BMW as an OEM but not in the UK. Kits are available on ebay but has anyone fitted one, and is it any good?

Im looking to fit some sort of dash cam but want one that does'nt drain the battery and is descrete.
Im looking to fit this to a 61 plate X6
thanks.

You mean this?  Parts List.

Not yet available in the UK but will be any time now and can be retrofitted.

I have a Roadhawk HD in mine (forward looking) up by the mirror.  It's not bad from the 'discrete' standpoint.  I used the Roadhawk hard wiring kit which my local dealer advised me to connect into the point they use behind the right hand centre console carpet trim.  There is a 12V source there which is ignition switched.  The Roadhawk lead has a power block in it that correctly powered up and shuts down the camera.  GPS is provided from a separately mounted aerial as the screen mount position takes to long too get a lock.  The (provided in the box) separate antenna gives me a lock with a few seconds.

I have not fitted a rear one yet as I have yet to find a good camera and equally important a good mounting point.  I have the BMW rear screen blind in place which would need cutting to allow the lens a clear view.

No idea if the new BMW system is HD (720 or 1080) but if it isn't then it is of little use as the SD versions are just not good enough with fine details.

From my local Dealer:

Note - changed part number.

Part is available, changed to 66212359954. Price is £210.84 +VAT retail.

Installation.  I also have a copy of the EBA (installation instructions).  I can send to those who need, but will need a PM with your email address....

Camera appears to be a rebadged Korean Mando BF100 FullHD 1080 unit though in dual cam mode the frame rate is locked to 20fps.

Be great if all the modes are included as having the 'parked' recording capability where it records even when the car is off should an 'event' occur will be a big plus.

The RoadhawkHD doesn't have that.

I've gone with Black Vue DR500GW on my previous X6 M50d and currently also fitted to the RR and the Bentley.  If you buy the additional power pro unit you are protected from battery drain and also covered for car park incidents.  Full HD and bluetooth connectivity.  I've yet to find or see a better unit (now they've sorted the cooling issues).
