Possible X6 Purchase

Post by dobbor1 » Tue Jul 29, 2014 5:19 pm

Very tempted to trade in my E53 X5 for a used X6. Is there anything to look out for in terms of known problems, spec etc.

Hi I think X5Sport should be along in a minute and he had one for a while so probably he can give you a good detailed report.

My brother in law had one but it only hard 4 seats not the later 5 seat which to me makes more sense. Although I did like the car esp with the diesel engine, but. It has a few toys head up display sunroof soft close doors etc

If I could have afforded one I would have bought one and there have been a few who. Have added bits to make them look every tough

I bought an X6 3.oD after selling my X5 sport. Its the 5 seat option which makes a lot of sense. Also has the 315 rear tyres which do give it a mean stance IMHO.
Had it for 3 monts but really love the car so far. :)

No major issues with my Oct 2010 (MY2011) 40d so far.  04/2010 will get you the later spec with 8sp box and the uprated but cleaner engine (Band J).  The 30d and 35d have the 2nd generation of the E53 ZF 6sp box which (so far) seems much more reliable.

Mine is a 4-seat as there was no 5-seat until 2011.  I have a lot of the options fitted and it depends what you are looking for.

I don't have air susp on mine as that was an option unless the increased towing capacity is built in.  The Aux heater is not fitted as standard on the X6 diesels.  There are a few with it though.

If you can find one with Comfort seats as well as the usual selection of toys then they are well worth having.

The 35d was replaced by the 40d.  I think before that it might have been an SD but I am not 100% on that.

I think the parking camera is a must for these as the rear window is high up and small.

The Boot closing aid also is good to have

Get the upgraded stereo as the standard speakers are a little 2D

I have only had mine for less than 2 months, but all good so far (fingers crossed)

Getting new tyres will be expensive, so check they don't need doing anytime soon on any car you consider.

The 35 or 40d are surprisingly quick  >:D

Love the car. !

Had my X6 40D for about 6 months now..and loving it.

Get one with comfort seats and cameras all-round.

Driven sensibly, i'm getting 30+mpg, but she never drops below 24mpg, even when cruising at 100mph.

Will be having a remap done next, for even better driveability and fuel economy (hopefully).
