Hello and :hi: to the Forum

A couple of useful sources for info for you:

Realoem - a copy of the current BMW Parts database on line. You just need the last 7 of your VIN in the serial number field to pull up the right model.

Newtis is an on line copy of most of the BMW Service instructions for pretty much every model. Given there is no ‘Haynes Manual’ for these cars, this is as good as it gets.

Cheers for the advice Marty, looks like a common problem on them, first got a sort an alternator to see if my gearbox issues are sorted new battery lasted 30 mile trip home, charging light flickered a bit then stayed on, so I have one coming for it next.

As stated I bought my X5 with a host of issues, people say don't buy a cheap BMW for a reason, I say I like a challenge, therefore when the previous owner had lost the that book and Sawa other £££ off I thought I'll have that then send off for a new Log book.
Well haven't got book back from DVA yet but on the plus side just found out it's a yr younger 2005.

If you put the VIN into an on line decoder it will tell you the ‘as built’ spec and date of manufacture. Check that against the build plate under the bonnet (month/year).

Should be three cables from memory. Two positive one negative. The second positive wire is much thinner. It provides a low current circuit in the event of an accident because the main positive wire will be cut by an explosive guillotine in the connector.

It’s usually all combined at the +ve connection to the battery terminal.

49A5 is a gearbox LIN bus communications error.

49a6 is a communications error on the LIN bus between the ECU and glowplug controller.

Can’t help any further as I don’t speak French. A search for either of the error codes on line should point you in the right direction for a fix.
