BMW Safety Recall. ( fuel filter heater )

Post by Horizon » Mon Dec 16, 2013 4:26 pm

My Stepson has just received a recall notice from BMW for the replacement of the fuel filter heater.
BMW 1/5/7 series X3,X5, X6.
He has a 116d 59 plate , it has the start button / fob system. Will he be able to get the security update done FOC at the same time do you think ?
He never received any info regarding the security update, was that a recall or do they only do it for customers who have their cars serviced at the dealers.?
I guess this recall involves all the E70 and E 71 owners too by the sounds of it.?

The wifes 120d is booked in this Thursday for the work, I asked about my 2011 X6 and was told it is not on the recall list yet. The 1 Series is in for the day so I presume the security update will be done as well, if not I will ask them to do it while it is in.

The VOSA site backs that up as there is (as yet) no recall for the E71, only the E70 X5 made between Aug 2008 and June 2009.

Details.  Oddly if you search under X5 it does not appear, but search under 1-series and the X5 is listed.

The manufacturer only has to make contact with the last known owner that they have records of, regardless of who maintains it.  I had a Honda recall two years back for a bike I sold 5 years earlier.  Fortunately I knew the guy I sold it to so passed the info on.

Your one series is in the date range for the security update .
I would mention it when you drop it off , both jobs take less than an hour each
Cheers

I had this heater replaced on my 2010 35d a couple of years ago.  I recall mentioning it on the forum but can't remember now if it was a recall issue.  I know I had complained to the dealer about the car performing worse in the cold weather.  It did Improve things but the car is definitely noisier and thirstier when it's cold here.  And this morning it was minus 24 Celsius!  Darn car wouldn't start - it's on a battery charger as I type.  :xmassad:

Aarrrgghh! Had a service today but only saw this once home!

Yes, my car is in the recall build date. Plus they did a new fuel filter as part of the service today. Gutted that I'll have to go back now.

Should this thread be copied as a sticky in the E70 section?
