BMW X1 will be assembled and sold in Russia

According to a report by InsideLine, Avtotor, the Russian auto assembler and partner of several automakers, will start assembly the new BMW X1 on October 1.
The X1 will have its own production line at the Kaliningrad plant and will appear at Russian dealers in October.
Initially, Avtotor expects to launch the production of the X1 sDrive18i Urban version priced at $42,000, as well as xDrive20d in Urban and Lifestyle versions priced at $50,000 and $55,000, respectively.

I wonder if the build quality will be affected like the first generation Z4 was, being built in America?

Thanks for sharing sp3ctre, BMW seem to be doing this alot. They have just opened their 2nd factory in China (5 series, again built under licence) and another on the way IIRC.

Its a shame we have not had any X1 owners shoe up here yet its not a bad car and a good 3er Touring alternative and very nice with the 23d engine albeit as per many new BMW models, a bit on the expenssive side

But....as with the x3 the first version looks so ugly......

The new x3 on the other hand looks like a proper X......hopefully it will take sales off the Q5 and the Freelander

Actually agree myself - can't get used to the looks yet, same with most of the current beemer line up.

I can't really see what difference it makes where BMW build a factory, surely it'll be the same factory spec wether it sat in a building in Germany or Russia?
