BMW x1 fuel consumption

BMW x1 fuel consumption

had the car for 3 months now average fuel 40-44 mpg which I think is very good for the size of the car lots of town runs , x1 xdrive 2.0 .
is any body else getting any better consumption ?

I've had my xDrive23d Auto for 3 weeks now and I'm getting just under 40mpg.  But I'm not being too heavy with my right foot . . .

On the other hand, I reckon it will be better after about 20k; I'm sitting at 8k at the moment.

That's not bad.  What's the powerplant config in the 23d?  Twin turbo 2.0d?

We get about 44mpg with the Mini Countryman (which uses the same floor pan I'm told) and you're still running in really...:ok:

Yes, twin sequential turbo, although I'm not sure what that means exactly; I suspect that it operates at different boost levels to provide a smoother delivery of power.  It feels great!  I can pull out into busy roads almost with impunity now .  .  .  ::)

I thought the new Mini was big  ;) But yes, I reckon the running in is still underway.  I've just sold a 320d Touring which seem to loosen up at around the  70k mark.

We got our X1 25d last week, this was its first commute, a 45 mile journey.
I was quite impressed with these figures.......

Had my X1 2.0 since November and getting 48 mpg on local runs and slightly better (49.7) on long runs. I live in Cumbria so we get lots of hills and windy roads.

Any updates to this chaps?

Got my 2011 23d last week and it won't get above 31mpg!! [auto, 23d].

Something doesn't seem right if the 23d owner above was getting just under 40. And this is via the trip, assume that in reality it's even worse!! :(

Hi: New guy here.
I have had my 2.0D x-drive, manual for about a month with 50k on the clock.
I have been averaging 44.8 (the 0.8 is important!) over the last 700 miles of mixed town & country and trying hard not to push it. I have not managed to get to 50 mpg even on a steady run.
Oddly, this is the same as my recently sold E91 330D manual, but that was happily achieving 50-55 on a long run......

As this started out averaging 36 mpg before the DPF clogged-up at 108k I can only assume the fuel consumption on the X1 will deteriorate until it too needs the DPF replaced. What mileage have you guys (above) got on your X1's?

Was in Germany and Austria this summer and we were getting 51 on the long run from Amsterdam to Nurnberg. Stayed above 50 whilst in Austria and then 52 coming back home.

Hi all...
I've had a 18d X1 for about 3 months and am quite shocked at how bad mpg is! Thought it would be better than it is. I know its a fairly heavy car and a 2 litre but i have been driving around wondering quite why it is so bad! Even driving like a saint i can just get it up to 44 mpg on a 20-30 mile run. I thought maybe the DPF was blocked?? Tried an additive to make it regenerate to clear it but made no difference. Really interested to see that most people on the forum think a low 40's consumption is a good return!

I think it is safe (with BMWs) to assume around a 30% difference between real world and lab official figures.

Hence the move to change the whole testing system to something far more realistic.  It was supposed to be this year, but 'interested parties' are delaying it both in the EU and further afield.

I guess so. My father drives a 14 plate Nissan Qashqai which i think is only a 1.5 litre and regularly gets well into the 50mpg region around town and 65-70 on a run! Even 74mpg on one trip! I know that you cannot rely on the computer mpg so i check mine against fill up amounts and mileage travelled and it is about correct. Weird!!!

Quick update: After filling up last and driving like an absolute saint i've managed to achieve 47mpg according to the on board computer. I have worked it out to nearer 50mpg!!! Perhaps i just needed to work out how to adapt my driving style to a new vehicle? All the same, i am happy with that as my journeys have mostly been town driving along with a few 10-20 miles runs and one 100 mile run on this tank!
