Post by dazzasgotav8 » Sat Dec 15, 2018 5:10 pm

I have owned my X5 for 3 months now and i seem to be playing chase the problems soon as i fix one thing something else goes wrong , not use to this as my previous japanese car gave me no problems in all the 8 years i have owned it , so is this just the joys of a X5 :( to add to my list of problems this morning the radio display is now just a blank screen radio still works but just no idea whats on the screen :headbang:

The E53 is getting on a bit now so I expect that things could go wrong.

My previous 2012 E70 40D did not have a single issue in the 6 years I had it (from new). My E53 I had from new as well and I had two issues, a leaking oil gasket from the gear box and the glow plug controller box. Had that one for 7 years. My latest one has not had any issues either but is only 6 months only though.

Simple answer to your question is NO. I've had 8 of them and all had problems. Would I drive anything else ? NO !

Like many, I had an E53 that almost drove me from the brand. Made between Xmas and New Year 2005 it was a ‘holiday car’ with all kinds of electronic gremlins and complete gearbox failure at just 38k miles (which being just out of warranty BMW walked away from) but I still came back for another X car. Our E46 is now 13 1/2 years old and just passed another MOT. I now also have a 220 Gran Tourer xDrive.

The trouble is that there really isn’t anything I have driven since that drives as well as a BMW, so I keep coming back. I do however maintain an OEM Warranty - just in case :)

My e70 made it a full 3 months in my ownership without issues now suspension level control failure but it has 130k and is near 10 years old so I did expect to have to fix a few things , The joys of ownership ! :D

funny you should mention a cayenne i nearly bought one till i relised they seem to be unreliable hence there cheap price tag , i gotta say was out in the x5 last night over 2 hours driving up hill down dale not that you notice hills with the ample power on tap from the v8 and it made me realise that despite its faults its a great car guess me wallet will have to get use to being empty , think i need to sell me other car to free up some funds .
