Power Steering Pressure Hose - Leak from inline crimp joint

Post by RChaloner » Sun May 06, 2018 5:12 pm

Hello Folks,

My 2005 E53 3.0D Manual Sport appears to have a slow oozing leak from the PS pressure hose (BMW 32416764029), the one running from the rack input, across the rack and up to the reservoir.
The leak is not at either end but where one of it's two flexi-sections has a crimp 'joint' half way along the rubber run.

Not sure what this joint does, as it's inline, has no branches and each of these flexi lengths are pretty short so it's an odd one to joint, unless it's some sort of inline pressure / flow regulator.

The question is regarding the hose replacement; new OE seems to be around £280, don't see any good 2nd hand ones at the mo, does anyone know of any other replacement sources at a reasonable price?

Richard.

I use Hydraulic hoses all the time in my job as a service engineer, take it off, (drain your power steering fluid into a suitable drain tray from the broken joint )
They will be able to remake the hose with new or reuse  the ends if non standard.
£30 I suspect
Refil with dextron3 I think ( form of ATF fluid ) turn lock to lock , top up fluid , sorted

Thanks that's an interesting idea.
Are you thinking of any hydraulics firms in particular, or just look for a service centre near me?

The metal ends & centre sections are likely to be generic sizes and barbs but probably bespoke pipe angles, so would expect a re-use is best, assuming the crimp collars can be replaced.

Thanks,
Richard.

Probably best to get a photo if possible and email it to a local Hydraulic hose supplier and they will be able to advise what's possible.

When I needed a new pipe for my Saab I went to the nearest branch of Pirtek. They made me a new on for £25.

Yes Pirtek is the way to go.  I was a forklift service engineer and we always used them.
Also used them for hoses for my boat, Yellow pages or google.
