Noise when breaking

Post by jordanthomson91 » Wed Jun 06, 2018 9:41 pm

Hello!

I have a BMW X5, 2013 (3.0D M Sport) and recently ive noticed when breaking, particularly when crawling and then slowly breaking there is a horrid squealing noise coming from the front set of wheels. This doesnt happen every time I break, only when its a rolling start then stop, similar to when you go through a drive-through

Ive got a short video where you can hear the noise but cant seem to attach it to this post. Ive had it in at the garage and the break pads aren't worn, about another 6+ months on them. Could there possibly be another reason this is happening when breaking?

Cheers!

If you only got 6 months left on them that would suggest they have been in there for some time, the squealing is more than likely a high frequency vibration (not felt) between the caliper piston and the back plate of the pad, normally cured by putting some copper slip grease between the piston and pad back plate

I would get new pads fitted and see if that cures it but i think it will.(don't forget the copper-slip)
