Battery/starting problem

Post by ChrisLux » Tue Aug 10, 2010 12:57 pm

I have a prob on my '05 3.0d .

When starting , it turns over really slowly , almost as if the battery is flat and about to die .

I took it to the Concessionaire here , and they tested it and told me that the battery is fine
and that there is no fault coming back from any of the starting system .

However , even if I have it on an trickle charger/battery conditioner when trying to start it
still turns over slowly . The ammeter shows there is some loss .

I've just bought a solar powered battery aid , and this seems to help !!

(From 1wk use I can highly recommend them)

Has anyone experienced this problem , and have any ideas how to rectify it ??
Someone mentioned to me that they heard of a problem with the radio/alarm circuit
trying to switch on by themselves !!

Cheers in advance
Chris

Another thing to try I used to have a really weak start felt like it was struggling or just made it too start, I had been on long runs too. My solution was a simple one, tighten the ground terminal on battery and clean and tighthen the ground to the car. Since then it starts how I would expect. Worth a shot.

Other one is you can take a reading from the OBC hidden menu when you turn the car off, and then take another one before you start to see how much your losing overnight and see if something is draining the battery, however as you said even with it plugged in you got a weak start, makes me think poor ground connection.

Chris, does this slow start happen all the time or only when the 'X' is cold, say first thing in the morning?
