Which water pump

Post by mr angry » Wed Nov 14, 2018 2:02 pm

I have a 2003 (03) 3.0d E53 X5 sport.

I have noticed a rumbling bearing noise from the front of the engine for a while and more recently a slight coolant loss. Upon closer examination I noticed as suspected the water pump bearing is shot. No problem I thought, a quick trip to eurocarparts and all will be fine. I bought a Circoli pump after going through their lottery type discount code scam and realised on opening the box that it was the wrong one. It had no thread on the front of the pulley for the viscous coupling.

I have had a search and cannot see any variations to the pumps on the pre-facelift model like mine yet eurocarparts list it as the only one suitable.

Has anyone else with a similar vintage diesel X5 replaced their pump that could maybe shed some light?

Put the last 7 of your vin number into this site and you will find every part of your.
Find the pump and you will get the part number.
Copy the number and do a search for it you will find the correct one.
DON'T get a circoli as they only last five minutes.

Thanks Alan but there doesn't seem to be any hyperlink to the site you refer. Is this real oem?

Always use genuine parts...its not rocket science....if a water pump has lasted say 100k ....a new one should last the same or there abouts...and BM give a 2yr warranty on all parts......

Marti, I understand what you mean but the oem pump is not made by BMW so it is out there with all the other aftermarket ones. Also many aftermarket parts offer a longer warranty than that of the manufacturers 2 years.

In my defence Marti I read on that well known USA forum that Corcoli was a OEM supplier. I suppose one shouldn’t believe everything one reads
