Cruise control question

Post by weirdfish » Tue May 07, 2019 1:23 pm

When I use cruise control and increase the speed via the + button on the steering wheel the car takes off like a rocket, is this right, I would have thought it would just slowly increase until I let go.
Then when I've finished using cruise and simply press the loud pedal the car doesn't like it at all, very hesitant and lumpy.
Car is a 2003 4.6.

Yes it will as you say "go like a rocket" it’s like when you disengage at 50 go down to 30 then re-engage it goes to 50 flat out. Shouldn’t be hesitant and lumpy when you go to the loud pedal.

All the BMWs I have had do exactly the same thing:- head for the set speed as quickly as possible.

When I had a Renault many years ago the cruise on that was far more gentle in its acceleration.

That's good to hear.
I'll experiment a bit regarding the lumpy acceleration when in cruise control.

If you hold down the + side of the cc button the vehicle will accelerate rapidly. To go gently press the button incrementally.
