If it turns out to be the diff, it doesn’t say much for the AA or your mechanic. Perhaps while your waiting you could look up the cost of a second hand diff on eBay or from a recycler and this would give you an option when the specialist gives you a price to replace/rebuild.

As you can guess, there is still no sign of the car with lockdown. When eventually they get round to fixing the car, I have asked for them to service the gearbox and front diff as well, saves me doing it when its at the specialists anyway....

So finally got my car back after 10 weeks, fair point this was due to Covid-19 and not problems at the garage. Transpired to be a totalled rear diff and not the gearbox. Rear diff was rebuilt, front diff had the oil changed and also had the gearbox serviced at the same time. All done by A1 premier transmissions in Biggleswade for a total cost £2100, certainly a dent in the pocket book but also feel it could of been worse. Now on to fixing all the other little niggles I have on my list :headbang:

Ouch! Yes it could have been worse. Enjoy it now you have it back and are allowed out again.
